It'll be interesting to watch him develop, hopefully he becomes more than just a big guy to insert when you need to hit an outside shot. I've seen him play, but not a ton and this is all just my personal opinion which doesn't mean much. Pat Lawless tweeted out he thinks it could be a steal for the Saints.
It doesn't surprise me that Vermont offered him. The staff has taken good offensive players and tried to improve them through the strength and conditioning program and teaching them team defense to hide there limitations. Not earthshattering or unique I understand. If the kid embraces that sort of work and is willing to be more physical, he can be a Henson type player. Whether he has that willingness or desire mentally is the question for me.

Lowell makes their first offer for 2020, Bol Akot (NH). St. Bonaventure and Rutgers have also offered.

All those schools abandoned him and he was slated to go prep because he had zero active D1 offers. Kid is softer than butter on a 95 degree day...

Whatever someone might think about his ability, I have to imagine that the schools that were reportedly showing interest in him, that this kid (Seymour) can play in the MAAC. I mean, not that hard.

Christian has landed a D1 local kid that otherwise would have never committed to Siena with the previous couple of regimes, so from that perspective the new hire/coach is already paying dividends.

This kid had no active D1 offers...all the schools pulled them that's why he was going to prep a week ago with an eye to getting a D1 scholarship.

Why did every school pull their scholarships?

He never progressed past 9th grade...same player he was years ago. Is incredibly lazy and doesn't want to play basketball. Almost looks like his parents are forcing him. Dad was an old Siena assistant coach I believe. Even Patsos stopped recruiting him this winter.

Re: 2019 America East Recruiting Thread

I actually have a few questions for anyone who is in the know.

According to nationalletter.org, the signing deadline for D1 college basketball athletes is May 16th. Does that mean at this point that a recruit can only verbally commit until a certain point in the year? What is the point of this deadline?

I'm sure there are others who are a little more informed on this topic, but my understanding is that after the NLI window closes, players and schools can still enter into a written financial aid agreement, as a way of outlining that a player still intends to come to the school, the school still intends on providing that player a scholarship, etc. It's just not the traditional NLI that everyone is used to.

To your second question, why the deadline at all? I've never quite understood the whole NLI calendar. I get why maybe they have an initial start date, as a means of discouraging players from committing too early if they haven't had a chance to make an informed choice. But at some point you'd figure if a kid wants to sign, let him sign.
