No AE team will get an at-large to anything (NCAA or NIT). Just not happening, for many reasons.

Not to nitpick too much...AE women's bball teams have earned at large bids to the NCAA tourney. I don't follow LAX, but it wouldn't surprise me if AE teams got an at large or two in that sport as well. ;-)

I agree with what I think you meant to say...no AE Men's bball team will be getting an at large to the NCAA or NIT anytime soon.

In men's baskethoops, we have a few too many teams vying for that elite Ken Pom 353rd spot and last year only 1 team broke #100 .

Not very at-largey.

Great interview. I still feel like the team is a little light in the shooting department in the front court. Team really needs to see improvement from Moll and Davis in that area to reach their ceiling.

No surprise, but Catamount Nation breathes a big sigh of relief nonetheless

Re: 2019-20 Vermont Catamounts

I had some time to kill and looked for video of Giddens last season. I'm hopeless for pasting links and so forth, but I can report that I'm even more positive now. UVM is a development program with the coaches needed to remake his game to eliminate fouling. If he can stay on the court he will own the AE inside.

That is the biggest IF...Becker is a defense first coach. He's got to learn the rotations and play straight up defense without stupid fouls. IF he can do that, he will get significant minutes and be an important piece of what UVM needs.

Fingers crossed...

Re: 2019-20 Vermont Catamounts

Midmajormadness updated their top 25:

https://www.midmajormadness.com/2019...ssey-uc-irvine

Both Harvard and UVM have moved up a spot at 7 and 8 respectively. I wonder why UVM doesn't get the nod over Harvard...we've beat them the last few times that we've played them and have pretty much owned Ivy league opponents for a while. Seems like that should count for something...

Re: 2019-20 Vermont Catamounts

Harvard getting Aiken back is their big deal. He is good but UVM has owned them.

UVM is up there near the top, very impressively over a bunch of mid-major big hitters. I like that and hope the team takes it as a challenge and not a guarantee.

And now, we enter that long quiet time for MBB. Summer.

FWIW, Andy Katz of ncaa.com has our Anthony as no. 7 in his list of candidates for the Erving Award ("The Julius Erving Award is given every year to the top small forward in Division I men's basketball.")

Re: 2019-20 Vermont Catamounts

Also, this: 5 Unranked College Basketball Teams Benefiting from the 2019 NBA Draft Deadline
Quote:
Vermont Catamounts
Vermont had just one underclassman consider entry into the 2019 NBA draft, but his absence would have left a colossal void for the defending America East Conference champions. Instead, guard Anthony Lamb's choice to don the green and gold for one more run gives Vermont its best hope of scoring an NCAA Tournament win since T.J. Sorrentine and the 2005 Catamounts stunned Syracuse.

The Catamounts have knocked on the door twice with Lamb on the team, who scored 20 points in an 80-70 loss to Purdue in 2017, and 16 points with eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 76-69 decision vs. Florida State this past season. If you are looking for a player who can drive his mid-major program to a Tournament win, and perhaps even a Top 25 ranking in the vein of Wofford's Fletcher Magee last season, look no further than Lamb and Vermont.

Lamb's return is to the Catamounts what Myles Powell's decision to come back to Seton Hall means for the top-10 ranked Pirates. Lamb is an explosive scoring swingman who sets the table for the entire Catamount offense beyond his impressive 21.2 points per game. He also led the Catamounts in assists and was one of the most heavily relied upon players in all of college basketball. His possession percentage in 2018-19 ranked 21st among all Div. I players and he was 12th in shot distribution percentage, all adding up to a No. 9 overall offensive rating. Lamb also is vital on the glass, leading Vermont at 7.8 rebounds per game, but more importantly, ranked No. 92 in defensive rebounding percentage among all players.
