Re: Best Coaching Jobs in AE

From a coaches perspective?

1 - Binghamton
1a - Maine
1b - New Hampshire

These schools obviously care nothing about job performance and you can stay there forever collecting a paycheck.

Pretty interesting, thanks for posting. I’d argue they might want to consider some of these categories differently for mid-majors versus high majors. For example, Admissions. For a high major, lower admission standards would be a “good” thing (insert cynical comment here). I’d think for a mid major, higher admission standards could be considered a positive. If you are a kid who is not going to the NBA I would think the best education would be a consideration in your thought process.

The new UVM arena will move these rankings around some.

I don't see the rationale for ranking a team low if they have more buy games than other teams.

Buy Games – Programs who are bought the fewest number of times will rank first

I don't get this either. For a player, it simply means more chances to play Power 5 Conference teams. They could care less about their school getting paid, but they do enjoy playing top tier competition.

I'm with you guys. I didn't get this one either. Most of the others seemed reasonable (although I don't think I would weight them equally like the survey seemed to).

Playing more buy games than the average low major indicates that your school NEEDS to do to low funding. While this may not be a huge deterrent to a student, as a coach it may be seen as a red flag. These rankings were done from the coaches point of view after all.

OK, a reasonble explanation, but on the other hand, I can see where a school would rather play a buy game with a big-time program as a challenge rather than play a low-major cupcake (which seems to be the case currently with UVM). Maybe UVM did it for money during the Brennan era but I can't say for sure that is the case now.

Oh, we definitely do it for the money. They're not mutually exclusive: we can do it for the money AND the "experience" (however you want to define it: competitive schedule challenge, player vacation trip, etc.). But any program at our level needs those checks to come in.

I guess UVM will have arrived when Duke doesn't pay them to come to NC, or agrees to a home and home series.

Pretty silly list when it doesn't include salary.

Pretty silly comment when you clearly didn't carefully read the article (which, by the way, we all discussed last fall when it was published):

"Budget/Resources – Includes coaches’ salaries, recruiting budget, travel budget, private planes, cost of attendance, etc."

Yeah, that is a silly comment. I did read it but for or whatever reason I only thought about the staff salaries and not the HC salary being included under resources.

I don't have much disagreement with the rankings, FWIW.
