Re: Coach Kellogg Hot Seat??

a collapse of not making the tourney depite starting 16-1 with 10 top 100 wins should be enough to get someone fired, but it won't because kellogg is a nice guy and went to school at umass and he would never leave for a higher profile job like travis ford did. there is a SUBSTANTIAL portion of fans who want to keep him for those reasons. mostly kellogg's family and ford's jilted former lovers in the area who now root for who ever is playing oklahoma state.

there's even a portion of fans crazy enough to think that chaz quit on the team last night when he left for his injury, that's how ****ing protective some of these nut jobs are towards kellogg. sure he's been great lately but is that because he got lucky that pecora left hoftsra and a vertically challenged but extremely talented point guard fell into his lap or is it something he's actually done with purpose?

PS: Trey Davis (UMass) is the truth, he's going to be all a10 when things are said and done in his career.

I think there will eventually be two different Trey Davis on the all A-10 lists.

Yes, please fire Kellogg. We'll hire him. How much does he get paid?

My bad got it to work.

He's guaranteed to make at least $665,000 and could reach over $800,000 if UMass is successful on the court, at the ticket window and in the classroom. The new deal, which replaces the final two seasons of the initial contract he signed in 2008, runs through April 22, 2017.

...

* $75,000 for making NCAA Tournament
* $25,000 for a final ranking of 60 or better in the Ratings Percentage Index (which compares all Division I teams based on on-court success and schedule strength)
* $25,000 for strength of schedule ranked in top 75
* $25,000 for 20 Division I wins
* $20,000 if home attendance averages over 5,500 fans per game.
* 20,000 for reaching the NIT
* $20,000 top four conference finish
* $20,000 for team academic progress rate score of over 940
* $20,000 for a graduation retention rate of 80 percent of higher

Please no. Too depressing for GW fans if he becomes a star.

(though to be fair, I am not sure his skill set matches what Lonergan looks for and has built a succesful team around).

At least Copes hasn't lived up to the hype (other than last night)

Re: Coach Kellogg Hot Seat??

I'd leave it to UMass people to be the jury on whether Kellogg deserves more time.

From a conference perspective, though, how does this guy rank among his peers? He's lifted that program, but is he better then most of his A10 colleagues? Middle of the pack? The program has had some success, but if I stop and think about it I don't remember ever saying, 'Wow, that's a really well-prepared, well-coached team.'

He's a great recruiter, especially on the transfer market. I happen to enjoy the fact that 8/10 times he will let his players make the plays down the line rather than call time and draw up a play for them. Though i know others don't feel the same.

He's also not one to make many in-game adjustments. I know when we played GM away, he made a switch to zone D that completely changed the complexion of the 2nd half (this was reat). But i get the feeling he makes a game plan, prepares for it, and lets it ride.

Re: Coach Kellogg Hot Seat??

he doesn't game plan at all. at home, he'll press for the first 3 minutes and then back off until we're down at the 6 minute mark of both halves. on the road he is apprehensive of pressing at all if he doesn't have to. if a team opens a 13 point lead, he will switch to our half court 1-2-2 zone and put on the full pressure press. these are the only adjustments he ever makes. out of timeouts he tries to force the ball to cady who turns it over. if you zone us, he will wait 3 minutes before putting in esho and davis who are both excellent against zones.

if we get off to a good start we are very difficult to beat because we thrive off of high tempo and the opponents need to speed up the game to come back. if we fall behind early, it invites teams to slow us down and we suck when we're slow.

he also doesn't teach basics like hedging on screens or boxing out and depends on "player effort" to compensate for these things. he's very slow to correct long term problems as well, usually waiting until a team embarrasses us to bother making adjustments in practice.

ps: kellogg has to have the worst valentine's week record of any a10 coach. his 2 worst league losses in his career were both in valentines week (couple years ago at home vs fordham, this year vs gmu both come to mind).

I don't think Kellogg is on the hot seat this year because we are going to win the NCAA Championship!!!

But alot of people at my work say if we miss the NCAA then he should be fired
