Re: Around the League

Adams is still in a boot and "limping" and more or less confirmed out until at least the Maryland game on the 24th. According to JP Butler, the Bonnies' beat writer, the team is "hoping" he can play. "Hoping" usually means at least another week or two. So, the nightmare league scenario is that he's out for the OOC, the Bonnies finish 4-8, and then he comes back healthy and the Bonnies knock off a bunch of the conference leaders. Perhaps something similar happens with Mathews and URI.

Otto has already started primping for his appearance.

Re: Around the League

Two years ago, La Salle and St Louis finished at the bottom of the league.
Today they stand on the top of a very young season. Amazing.
(Yes I know it's early days)

Meanwhile, the Spiders are bringing up the rear. Did not expect that at this point, and some tough games to come.

Don’t know if it has been posted yet, because I’m falling behind. The Bona’s - UMES game has been rescheduled to Monday at 7:00 at the Reilly Center.

Feel bad for UMES having had to stick around up there for so long.

They didn't. They left either after the game was called or sometime the next day. They've got a game at Georgetown today at noon. I assume they will be going back tomorrow,

Re: Around the League

Again, it's early days.
But having the A10 #21 , and having UR at #343 does not bode well.

I never thought Fore's loss would be so big; or I overestimated the team from the get-go. (more likely I guess)

Going to be a long season for the Spiders.

Davidson senior Peyton Aldridge and Massachusetts sophomore Luwane Pipkins were chosen as the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week. Saint Joseph’s freshman Taylor Funk was selected the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday are for games played Nov. 13-19.

In addition to becoming the 16th player in school history to hit the 1,500-point plateau, Aldridge led four Davidson players in double figures with a career-high 37 points (26 in the first half) in Davidson's 108-81 win over UNC Wilmington. The forward from Leavittsburg, Ohio, finished 15-of-26 (.577) from the floor, including four 3-pointers, went 3-of-3 at the free-throw line and grabbed five rebounds.

Pipkins scored a career-high 34 points as he led the UMass men's basketball team to a 101-76 win over Niagara. The guard hit 12-of-18 field goals in the game including a blistering 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. His seven 3-pointers were one shy of his previous career-high of eight, which is tied for the school record. The offensive explosion marked his first career 30-point game, and his fourth 20-point plus game in two years. Additionally, the Chicago native had five assists to just one turnover in 24 minutes of action.

Funk averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in two wins. He shot 64 percent from 3-point range and 69 percent from the field. The forward from Lancaster, Pa., scored 22 points in the Hawks' win over UIC, posting eight in an 11-0 SJU run to erase an 11-point deficit. He then sent the game into overtime by hitting a 3-pointer with 40.6 seconds to play. Funk then scored a career-high 23 points in home win over Princeton, making 7-of-8 field goals, with 5-of-6 from three-point range. Has scored 61 points in his first 3 collegiate games, which ranks second on SJU's all-time list behind Bernard Blunt's 67 points in his first three games in 1990-91

Us too. Salavging this season in some way will require the youngest Hawks to contribute in ways that our freshmen usually don't. Here's hoping they do.

Re: Around the League

Hampton talked with Atlantic 10

Hampton University aimed a lot higher than the Big South Conference when seeking to join a new league.

Hampton President William Harvey negotiated for months with the Atlantic 10, and those discussions ended only days before the Pirates announced they would join the Big South, sources at two schools who asked not to be identified said.

Now that is bizarre. Hampton? I'd have to pass on that. At the moment, there isn't any need to look at adding anyone.
