Re: Around the League

I'm not so sure about "surging" Spiders.
Other than Rhody, this year's version of the A10 seems like a dung heap.
When you are looking for an upset in the tourney to get a second team in the dance...you're having a suck year as a supposed "top level" conference.

It does mean that the Spiders could get lucky in the tourney if one of you guys can knock off URI.

I know we're not having good times when JP stops posting.

Your favorite team has 7 total wins and you are throwing stones. Take the compliment and recognition and be happy about it. SMH

Re: Around the League

My favorite team sucks this year.
Young, sure, but we apparently run off upper classmen for some reason.
We should be marginally better next year as these guys get a year under their belt.
Meanwhile, when we post a 2-10 OOC, someone should be feasting on us to help a second team into the tourney.
However, I'll be glad to take the compliment and look forward to busting some dreams and bubbles in DC.

Uhhhhhh... any input on this from Explorer fans? That would be a curious, seemingly shortsighted move.

Re: Around the League

There's been some talk on message boards, but that's about it. I'm hoping it's not true, but then again, La Salle seems to consistently make bad decisions about important matters.

Re: Around the League

LaSalle’s Basketball budget is middle of the road in the A10 and top tier MAAC. I am not sure that simply changing conferences is the answer, unless it’s a financial move for the entire athletic department.

The problem with LaSalle leaving, or any member, is that the A10 will look to add another program that’s probably not as good as LaSalle. Personally, I believe that a smaller league would be better than what we have now. Eleven teams in the top 100 RPi playing a 20 game conference schedule would be ideal. More TV and NCAA money. He’ll, I would even advocate for a better split of NCAA units if the money was spent to better the basketball programs.

I am not an advocate of kicking programs out the league, so I am going back to watching my Flyer’s shitting the bed.

Re: Around the League

JAF you nailed it about not wanting to replenish an exit. I am not for La Salle leaving by any stretch, but if they did I'd sit tight at 13.

Contraction of the right schools makes the A10 stronger. I don't advocate kicking out. Lord knows we've borne the brunt of that wrath and it'd be a total douche move of a Bona fan to start calling for anyone's exit. At this point if La Salle left it would be addition by subtraction. But they've been a valuable contributor in the last 5 years.

I think this tweet/post whatever it was is hogwash. No one actively looks to go MAAC from the A10.

They do when a consulting firm is hired to convince some Trustee that going to the MAAC is the answer. I doubt that Dr. G is convinced that his basketball program will benefit from a move to the MAAC.

here's hoping the league uses LaSalle electing to leave as a chance to give Fordham the boot

This quote is from a couple years ago. Went to see Wofford play Samford tonight. Demitrius Denzel-Dyson plays for Samford.
Samford has transfers from UMass, Alabama and Auburn. Guys that I guess just wanted to play more ball.

Dyson looked very smooth. Definitely one of the better players on the court. One of those guys you just enjoy watching move, play, shoot, rebound, etc.
He finished with 17/8, but Wofford pulled away at the end.

Re: Around the League

As far as AA post goes about the transfer rule; this would make for some very interesting discussion.

So many recent modern day things have made this a big issue:

One, coaches just don't coach as long as they used to at schools. Mid majors have become serious stepping stones for bigger jobs where the coach might be there for 2-5 years max.

Two, just the sure number of transfers alone already makes transferring in these situations an option.

There are rumblings of locker room problems at Dayton which probably aren't all that uncommon when a new coach comes in. X Williams has barely played the last few games and he was going to be counted on this year for mega production which never panned out.

I'm not against letting guys transfer out with a coaching change.
