Re: Around the League

It was posted in the Davidson thread, but also posting here, Davidson landed their big man of the future today from Austria, Luka Brajkovic. Davidson got him over Stanford, Purdue and Penn State, they've been on him for a looooong time:

Past few days have been huge for the program down in North Carolina.

Fordham gets a commitment from 6'10" center Onyinyechi Eysi. Like a number of other programs, FU is now recruiting well over its number of committed scholarships. What gives? Who is on the way out? The same goes for Duquesne (Dambrot has gone WAY over), VCU, and UMass. Any ideas?

Ya, I think the Flyers will see 2, maybe 3, defections in the off season.

Crosby and Williams for sure. Could be a surprise 3rd also.

The coaches know who is leaving early, or so it seems this time. We sort of got caught with our pants down last season with the departures of Sengfelder and Anderson, so the coaches are not going to let that happen.

Joseph Chartouny was honored with the seniors on senior day, so all indications are he is not coming back. He graduated in 3 years and I would be shocked if he comes back.

Perris Hicks is a redshirt junior who is on track to graduate, so thoughts are he possibly won't be coming back.

Junior Jesse Bunting is said to be graduating in 3 years, so decent chance he does not come back.

With the grad transfer rule and transfers in general, it is hard to blame coaches for over recruiting these days. It seems that if you don't do it, you end up with desperation recruits and or a short roster.

I count 8 currently rostered scholarship players in the almost definitely coming back category, so I think we are right on target.

You might want to think about recruiting athletes...not scholars.

It appears that was a Pecora recruiting pitch. I could be wrong, but I do not think you will be seeing much of that now. If Bunting leaves, I believe that will be the last of the Pecora recruits.

“We are incredibly excited to have two professionals with extensive backgrounds and basketball experience, not only from an administrative standpoint, but also as a player and as a coach,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president for basketball. “We’re excited to get Chris and Bernie on board. While their term won’t start until this fall, we’ll have them shadowing current committee members during this year’s tournament to give them a sense of what is to come.

"Shadowing" ... I like it.

Re: Around the League

Is the "NCAA Division 1 Basketball Committee" the same as the "NCAA Division 1 Basketball Selection Committee?"

And if it's the same, does Bernadette have JP's cell phone number?

I'm not predicting either one will win the league but they will both be there battling for it near the end.

Even in Dayton's worst years that I've seen (last 20 years) you won't find many years where they were below .500. Dayton has two players projected to be Top 20 draft picks (whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen) on this years team along with Cunningham and X. Williams.

VCU has proven that you just don't doubt what they do. I can't stand them but just because they lost a bunch of minutes and have a new coach, well, they've been there before.

Not totally sold on URI still. Some might say they caught lightning in a bottle in the A10 tourny and then got a nice draw in RD 1 of the NCAA. They got it done though but most of their fan base was ready to run Hurley out of town up until that minnie run they had and they lost a bunch of players too.

I realize what BPI says about Davidson but until that program realizes you have to play even vanilla defense to have a chance to win this league, they'll never do it. They have such a great offense but they must teach that basketball is only an offensive sport down there.

My pick to win the league though is SBU. They have a premium on the guard position. IF they can find any sort of inside game they will be tough to handle.

Davidson's defense was good enough this weekend.

UD announced that Xeyrius Williams has been released from his scholarship. The rumor is that two more will be coming. I think one more for sure.
