Re: Around the League

From Jon Rothstein

Well embedded moles in Ohio believe Dayton may have three transfers --- Rodney Chatman (UTC), Ibi Watson (Michigan), and Jordy Tshimanga (Nebraska) --- in its 19-20 starting five. Add Jalen Crutcher and Obi Toppin and that's a Top 40 team.

Re: Around the League

Saint Louis to play Tulane in the Naismith Memorial Jerry Colangelo Classic in Phoenix on December 8th. Also in the tripleheader are Dayton versus St. Marys and Grand Canyon University vs Liberty.

That's a pretty good triple header. 4 of those 6 are NCAAT caliber teams

The same number of which are actual institutions of education, too.

I think you misread '13, '84. I think he was referring to the two schools with religious affiliations. Oh, wait...

I think you meant to ask, which two of the five. I know which two '13 had in mind. I'm assuming he's giving the Catholic schools a pass.

Cool. I just wasted 5 minutes learning that Grand Canyon is a Christian University.

Re: Around the League

Grand Canyon was a for profit university when they first joined Division I. They have since switched to a non-profit in an effort to fit the mission of the NCAA, their current conference and their future conference.

Liberty was founded by evangelical televangelist Jerry Falwell -- who notably campaigned against Martin Luther King and integration, against civil liberties for gay people (whom he basically called child molesters and murderers), and blamed 9/11 on "the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians" and the ACLU. Falwell is someone who Billy Graham criticized for evoking God into any political debate in very scummy fashion.

So I'm guessing the snark was intended for those two universities.

But his son and the current President of Liberty has a pool boy. Go figure.

Re: Around the League

Happy Friday everyone. I am a bit bored and about to embark on a Cape Cod vacation. I see that Duquesne is getting hyped about beating up teams in the Bahamas. Any other teams on vacation playing some club teams?

I didn't notice anyone getting hyped about winning those games. What people were interested in was how well various players looked. Sincere Carry looked healthy, why wouldn't we get hyped about that. He'll compete for A10 player of the year as a junior and senior IF, he can stay healthy.

I was talking about how well they played. Maceo Austin appeared to play well. Nothing wrong with getting hyped. I know that I do every year.
