Too bad the Dayton newspaper wouldn't let me read it.

Re: 2018-2019 Dayton Flyers

JAF, the announcers on TV last night were trying to remember Dayton having a player like Toppin...the only name they came up with was Chris Wright. But they mentioned how Toppin is a bit taller, can shoot and dribble better. Who knows, I got down on Wright near the end as he seemed to never improve but his career numbers are really really good.

The difference between the two IMO is that Obi is a lot bigger. Obi has the length of a seven footer. CWís game was significantly more refined than Obiís as a freshmen - Obi makes a few freshman mistakes (mainly playing too fast) that I donít remember Wright making.

Obi has shown that he can shoot the ball, has NBA length and can definitely get off the floor. I think that CW improved as a player but wasnít able to develop the skills to play the small forward position in the NBA. Obi has a lot of work to do, but because of his length he can be a legitimate NBA prospect. His age might a problem for the NBA - heíll be what, 24 as a senior?

Ya, agree on all points...age might hurt him but I'm thinking someone will take a shot at him for all the reasons you said.

This has to be the most condescending article I've ever read. Their fans are the same way on the message board.

"if we had made our FTs we win this by almost double digits". "refs sucked", ect.

Ya, if Dayton hadn't missed 5 layups (including a dunk) in the first half and hadn't also shot 50% from the FT line we would have won by 30.

Dayton doesn't know how many fans it will have here because many are walking up and buying tickets on game day, but Neil Sullivan was told UD will have one of the largest turnouts in the eight-year history of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Dayton falls to 4-1 after a tough loss to Virginia.

Dayton is in the middle of a six game stretch that is as tough as I can remember in the last 20 years:

Butler, Virginia, and Oklahoma on neutral court. Then Mississippi State and Detroit Mercy at home before traveling to a true road game at Auburn. 4-2 would be OUTSTANDING but 3-3 is probably realistic.

The Dayton / Mississippi State game is a sellout.

Arena held 13,350 last year...with renovations down to 13,174.

This is a must win game for the Flyer’s.

Actually, every game going forward except for Auburn is a must win game.

Must win for what? AG's coaching record? You don't seriously think that an at large is possible for Dayton do you? That ship sailed. The pundits spoke. The A10 blows. 1 week into the season we're a 14 team graveyard lucky to get a visit from Otto. They're talking D1 expulsion.

Obviously that's partially in jest, but if the narrative has already been set, we've got problems. The narrative last year was Bonnies are legit.. we were last team in, or 2nd to last. The narrative this year is that the A10 is on life support. That's not going to equal a lot of at larges. Err.. any at larges.

I mean ya, you're right. It's tough for sure. I think Dayton at least as far as most of the computer numbers go so far is in a good spot right now. Lose tonight though and probably not much shot at an at large bid (like, the ONE at large bid the league might get). Again, this wouldn't be a bad loss but it would be another missed opportunity for Dayton. You need really good wins, not just some bad losses.

I am not convinced of the one bid talk yet. The national pundits have their narrative but if 3 or 4 teams have very good conference records and end with 7 losses I bet that the A10 gets at least two bids. By the way, Dayton looks very good to me. Cunningham and the other big guy, Obi?, are problems and UD has some guards that will come into their own.

What a Dick.

I agree with AA that the A10 can be more than a one bid league. I think that itís going to be 13 or 14 wins in conference to get an at large, and a some wins OOC.

There are a lot of reasons for tonight being a must win game.

Yes, for Grantís coaching record and to have a chance for an at large bid.

It will enhance UDís profile for a transition to a different league.

It will help flush any memories of last year down the toilet.

We need to move past the Archie era and remain relevant

A win tonight will give me satisfaction knowing that I was right about UD this year, and that the prognosticators had their heads up their asses.

It means there at least a few teams in the league that can win against the P5.
