stromile swift

i think stro is what we need--more than sar or marshall

-first off, his game is similar to kenyons (we all know what kidd did to kenyons game)-he is an athletic freak, a good finisher and has decent hands-he could be deadly on the break, maybe as good as kenyon

-i think the main reason to get a guy like stro is to play to kidd's strengths- his LEGENDARY fast break-a guy like sar or marshall wouldnt compare to what can stro can potentially do in the fast break, and our team would be more of a halfcourt team with either of those 2 guys (where kidd isnt anything THAT special)

-unlike the teams that went to the finals, we would have a balance between halfcourt/fastbreak...nenad is an inside prescence on offense, unlike what we had in collins during the 2 years we went to the finals (i could only imagine what nenad could have done to help kenyon in the halfcourt), and of course we have vince carter

-more on the fast break, i think if everybody is running, vince will run also...carter, rj and stro are three freakish athletic players that can excell with kidd running, to get easy baskets (much like the teams that went to the finals)-i think this year vince isnt really running with kidd b/c u cant run a 2 man fastbreak, but u can run a 4 man fast break (kidd, kittles, rj, martin)

-now to defense, stro is a legitimate shotblocker in this league, he also relies on his athletic ability and is a good off the ball defender b/c of this (not at kenyons level but similar)-just basic basketball knowledge--a shot blocking prescence doesnt need to always block shots, just intimidate defenders from taking it in inside (ala KG on saturday)--sam cassel said this in an article the other day after the game that we are not the same defensive team without kenyon

- stro has potential at 26 years old, he has never seen consistent minutes on memphis (probably the deepest team in the league) looking at his career averages, if he play 35 minutes a game he could easily average 15 points 8 rebounds and 2-3 blocks--guys like marshall and sar are great players that would help our team, im not bashing them, i just dont think theyre right for this team and could impact as much as stro

- i fear some will bash me for being a kenyon fan blah blah...what kenyon martin brought to the table is similar to what stro does, and with kenyon we went to 2 nba finals--jason kidd is not a 20 point per game scorer and is nothing spectacular in the half court, so why have jason kidd if we are not going to play to his strengths??

I didn't even start reading it.
All the Nets fans who dream about Swift should stop. There is NO WAY we can give him the money he wants, and 85% that he will sign in New Orleans. If he won't, it will be Atlanta, but not New Jersey.
We don't need him desperetly anyway. He's athletic and he can thrives in our system, but he has many many disadventages. And how do you think that Kidd can get along with someone who doesn't put a full effort every night?

Re: stromile swift

His game is NOT similar to Kenyon's. Kenyon played good defense. Stro blocks shots. Kenyon has great basketball IQ. The joke in Memphis is that Stro couldn't spell IQ if you spotted him the I. KMart is an excellent passer, averaging nearly 3 assists per game. Stro's careeer assist average is 0.6. KMart started virtually every game in his four years with the Nets and now with the Nuggets. Stro has started one-fifth of the Grizz games over the last five years. ONE FIFTH! This year, his contract year, he has played 51 games and started 14. A Memphis Commercial Appeal sports columnist excoriated him last week for not playing when he had been cleared to play for more than a week.

Comparing the two is an insult to the memory of KMart...and last year he demanded $60 million. He turned down $45 million from the Grizz. Also, he is a native of Louisiana, played college ball at LSU and New Orleans has cap space.

I can never understand the love of Stromile Swift and the hatred of Jason Collins on these message boards. It is mind bogging. One has started on three division champs, two conference champs and plays excellent defense. The other has been a disappointment since he was drafted. I guess if you can dunk in this league, there will always be people who talk about your potential. That's all Stromile Swift will ever amount to...potential.

Stefanski is in Chicago this weekend, scouting the NCAA tournament after watching a high school tourney.

The Nets own their first- and second-round picks this year. They also have their midlevel exception and $4.9 million trade exception that they could use on free agents such as Stromile Swift, Donyell Marshall, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

Should we use our Mle and TE for Swift?

We can't use both, and IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER. SWIFT IS A HORNET, PERIOD.

I can understand the love to Swift- He can finish the break, rebound and block shots. He can thrive next to Kidd, but I rather have Marshall. Marshall can spread the floor and rebound like no other, and consistensy is his second name. He can play nice low-post D.

Collins is a good defender. NOT EXCELLENT, NOT GREAT, NOT SUPERB, NOT AWSOME. He's a foul probe, has awfull hands and can't catch a rebound despite being a 7 footer. He's very slow. He can't finish near the basket, nor hit 15 footers. Doesn't worth his contract. If we could keep Cliff for less money I would trade Collins immidiately

I'd love to see him as a Net, but I don't think it's possible sadly.

Re: stromile swift

I'd like to see him actually show he can be relied on by a contending team, but sadly, that probably won't happen before the summer. If the Hornets want to overpay, they can have him. I'd love to see how Byron deals with him.
