OT: Open for discussion

This is directed at all bulls fans on this board and is open for debate and suggestions. First of all go to these two links if you can stomach it. Read them from start to finish and come back here.

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtop...34&forum=10&14

This is your board. What do you want allowed in here and not allowed? Its open for discussion. I am all for debates. I do not see the point of childish name calling and talking down to someone to try and get a point across. everyone has an opinion and you support your opinion with words not name calling. We are all on equal terms here. No ones opinion is any greater than anothers. What do you want me to do? Edit the posts of someone who does this? Bulls fan or otherwise? Thats what i want to do. But i thought i would ask the board what they are willing to be allowed. I think i know, but still i want to ask anyway. I would consider such name calling as personal attacks anyway.

Once upon a time Sicky Dimpkins posted his first posts on RealGM and was slammed badly. In retrospect most of it was deserved. I wasn't name calling but my ideas were bad(multiple trade proposals for Vin Baker and 1-2 for Shawn Bradley: all but one of which I repented from before the trade deadline: please forgive me). There were those who directed me to Larry Coon's FAQ's and the site for the salaries and whom also made arguements about why the ideas were bad. I appreciated those posts, even those who said the idea was moronic/idiotic and the one who said to others that one of the posts ought to be saved because it was the worst he'd(and others) ever seen. The name calling in reference to the idea(s) wasn't appreciated or especially helpful(although I did get a quick idea of just HOW bad they were and that made me more open to change) but not real hurtful. The name calling to my person was all negative but with one exception I wouldn't have had it banned. The one exception was a poster who posted that I had sex with my mother. It was after this post that I asked the honcho's at Real GM if I could change my alias because I wanted to participate but didn't think I could without starting over with a new alias (and my new understanding of what makes a good idea and what these boards are about)(Real GM was the first I'd ever used). They of course refused and I went on a hiatus but came back awhile later. Not too long after that the Bull made a trade for a vet with a long contract worth mid 40's mil(something I was told in no uncertain terms would not happen by many posters). I had a chuckle and posted an "I told you so" post(wrong player but right idea).

Well basically I learned and improved(I hope). I feel for the newbies who get slammed but not for those who just don't seem to care to learn and are selfish with their thread creation. I guess what I'm saying is that in terms of banning, I'd be very reluctant to do it. Let the other posters slam the posters they don't like(or put them on ignore). IMO: The owner of this and the other sites wants "traffic" regardless of how the "old guard" likes the new posters and they have the last say because it's their site and it's not "free" speech to them.
I'm sure that in time there will be chaos over here too and I fully expect that the "old guard" vs "new guard" battle will happen here too. In the mean time I'll just enjoy it while it lasts.

When given the ultimatum on Real GM, I "chose" to be banned not because of the posters(although I loathed many) but because of the moderators who I consider to be hypocrits. A little "organizing" control by the moderators would have gone a long way however.
Thats part of my point dickie i can edit any post in the bulls room. Thank you for your story. I remember some of that.

Interesting post Sicky. I started out out on Sportalk almost 2 years ago and I got into fights shortly thereafter while speaking up for Krause. Funny that the people I was arguing with are now the people I like and respect most even though we didn't totally change each others minds. There was an interesting combination of civility and roughness. Some who were Krause's most vocal opponents bashed those who made fun of Krause's weight or eating habits, there was an empshasis on trying to keep things cereberal and I liked it. Most studied for awhile before posting and tried to fit in the flow. I did the same and though I thought initially that only morons got involved in these boards, the intelligence and knowledge positively amazed me. I learned a lot. There is a tendency to jump on newbies who post ridiculous ideas, but the tough and smart ones are resilient enough to adjust such as yourself. I think a lot of it has do with knowing how bad the internet can be and knowing that we have a very special group of people in our crowd who are knowledgeable and have decent manners and the desire to keep it that way. What is happening at RealGM has been a nightmare and I find that if I read enough their stuff, I let myself get dragged down to their level, don't learn anything and feel bad for participating. I like it just fine here.

Threads like these two are exactly the reason I slowed the frequency of my posting on realgm! Totally disgusting and uncalled for. So...do what you feel you have to do to maintain some semblance of order and avoid that type of nonsense on these boards truebluefan. If someone(you remember BCH don't you?)feels that their post regardless of how tasteless/inflamitory/racsist or just flat out meanspirited and nasty, should not be edited in anyway then there is always the option of not posting here "period". I don't have a problem with it because more often than not some of the first posters that jump up and cry about the right of freedom of expression are the same ones that don't recognize the individual's inherent right to be treated in as respectful a manner as you would have someone treat you until it is no longer possible to do so. Again, do what you feel is right to keep this board in order after all it is just a rant board...It's not like you impede a person's constitutional right, when you edit a post on a rant board, to start his/her own board or post somewhere else. Just an opinion, not the only one.

NCBullsFan, as for why some people including me sometimes mistakenly refer to Sicky as Dickie, which I just did in my prior thread and had to edit it, is because I was thinking of Dickie Simpkins who Sicky based his name on.
On Greg Anthony, my understanding at the time he was released was that the Bulls were libel for about $2mil of his salary.
