How many people got nervous when Derrick Rose went down?

Now I know that Thibs should be Coach of the Year and I know this guy never quits no matter what. I understand that we could potentially be the #1 team in the entire NBA but is it really worth the risk of hurting one of our guys? Derrick Rose got knocked to the ground numerous times against Orlando. Imagine if Dwight Howard was playing. You think that Derrick would've been able to drive to the rim that easily with Dwight in. He would knock Derrick on his rear and has been known for that. Especially with him being 2nd to D Rose in the MVP race.

1. Would Coach Thibs still be considered Coach of the Year if Derrick Rose gets knocked out of the playoffs?
2. Didn't John Paxson and Vinny Del Negro get in a fist fight because Vinny was playing Noah too many minutes?
3. Why not let your bench get some key minutes to prepare for the playoffs?
4. Do you really think that San Antonio will make it to the finals? We have home court advantage if any other team in the West makes it to the finals even if we lose the last 2 games.

I generally agree, and we should definitely take it easy vs. New Jersey since we'll know by then if San Antonio has HC advantage locked up.

But, for New York I think we should try to beat them. Not only are they the only team that we haven't beaten, but if they catch Atlanta for the 5th seed (unlikely but possible), then it might come back to haunt us in the 2nd round of the playoffs. I'd much rather see New York play Miami in the 2nd round and try to wear down Miami; not to mention a good series to watch.

1. Maybe. He's not a lock for it anyway, as is.

2. Yes, but Noah was battling plantar fasciatis at the time and an actual minutes cap had been put into place. This situation is not analagous.

3. I actually would favor the bench seeing a bit of an uptick in minutes for the last couple of games. You still want your starters sharp, though.

4. No, I don't. You still should go for the best record in the league, just in case. Plus, you want momentum.

I disagree. I'd be overjoyed if we played New York in the second round of the playoffs, if that is what you're implying by having it come back to haunt us. Really, there's no question for me between New York and Orlando. One has a punisher who can hurt our guys or at the very least get them bruised up throughout the series, the other team rivals the 04-05 Suns in defensive intensity.

Also, I really think the Sixers and the Knicks would both have the same amount of success against the Heat in the playoffs, one would just be, of course, a more entertaining series.

In terms of playoff positioning or jockeying, I think the New York game is meaningless.

However, I do agree that we should try to beat them. Because we haven't yet.

Re: How many people got nervous when Derrick Rose went down?

I do worry at times but then I look back at the 90's.

You know how many games Jordan sat out when they wrapped up the #1 seed and conference in his last year in the NBA... 0. Heck he played 42 minutes the last game of the season when he really did not even NEED TO play, a 44 point gem against the Knicks just to prove a point.

14 GAME lead in the conference, 69 wins in 97 and Jordan sat 0 games and still played heavy minutes the last games.

96 the amazing 72 win season you would have thought he would sit the last couple of games but nope, he still played.

That same year even a guy like Anfernee Hardaway did not sit the last couple of games or take significant time off during games.

Injuries happen, I would prefer that Rose doesn't play too many minutes because of fear of injury but even if Rose took a whole week off there is no guarantee that he wont hurt himself 5 minutes into game 1 in the first round of playoff's.

The modern day injury scare and fear of not resting players has only recently (last decade) been really much of an issue. IMO it has more to do with how much more money these guy's are being paid and thus become even more important in terms of them being more of an investment more so than anything. Back in the 90's if a guy was injured the financial impact would not have been so terrible, now a days if Joe Johnson gets injured its a disaster of epic proportions because of how much hes being paid.

Re: How many people got nervous when Derrick Rose went down?

1) Yes. It's a regular season award. It's based on the team's turnaround. It's not based on Derrick Rose's MVP award.

2) Noah was injured at the time. He was given a minutes limit. The Head Coach was notified about this. And, Vinny to his credit was kind of a schmuck that blew off a direct order from team management. If I undermined my boss like that it'd be called insubordination and I'd be fired on the spot.

3) Why would the bench need to prepare for the playoffs? They've been playing together all year. It's the starters that need time on the floor together. We need Rose, Deng, Bogans, Boozer, and Noah out there as much as possible IF we want to succeed in the playoffs.

4) Yes. San Antonio does have a legit shot at the Finals. For the simple fact that you never know what might happen. Whether they make it or not is a different matter entirely. The Lakers could lose Bynum to his gimpy knees. The Thunder could falter. The Mavericks could be...well, the Mavs. We go for the record, this team is young. They have nothing to lose.

Injuries happen in sports, it's a 50/50 shot when you step on the court. No matter what day it is. IF you spend too much time frozen with fear you'd never accomplish anything. And the Bulls wouldn't have the best record in the NBA right now. 62-20.

Thibs is also FARRRRRRR more popular than Vinny, even if Pax was angry at Thibs for playing his guys every day there is 0 chance that Pax is gonna create a conflict. I think the whole Vinny think was just an accumulation of things that all exploded with Noah gate. Vinny was a horrible coach and if fans were pissed at Vinny for his crap coaching I can only imagine how pissed Pax was at him.

Sucks that Manu went down in the last game. Wonder how long he is out.
