Jimmer Fredette

He is really an amazing college player and I think has a legit shot at player of the year this season but what do you think about his game translating to the next level. Obviously he isn't the ideal NBA athlete and while he isn't stuck between positions, he isn't really a pure PG either. Still though, I'm kind of stuck whether he will be another guy who just doesn't have enough natural talent for the next level or if he will overcome that with skill and become a rotation player anyway.

Re: Jimmer Fredette

I think he can stick in the NBA.

Not only is he a lights out shooter, he is also extremely crafty around the basket. That combined with his upper body strength allows him to get his shot off in traffic. His problem is really his lack of speed, which will hurt him on defense more than anything.

But I still think he can make it as a bench player.

Re: Jimmer Fredette

I would be shocked if he couldn't stick around as a roleplayer. He is an excellent shooter and just being as good as he is at that one skill tends to keep you in the NBA a long time. But can he be more than a shooting specialist?

I think he will be the next Chris Quinn/Travis Diener. Probably slightly better

Re: Jimmer Fredette

Just to offer something to this conversation, a friend of mine who was a manager at Duke and worked for the NBA for a few years was out in Vegas and watched Team USA do some warmups this summer before the World Championships. They played a team of college all-stars and he said that Fredette looked so far over his head defensively that he would be shocked if he ever made an NBA roster. He said he looked like a kid who lost his mom at the supermarket.

Bench player. Guys like Dragic are still in the NBA, I dont know why he can't carve a niche out for himself. Shooting is a skill that is always in need.

He's better than Dan Dickau ever was...and that's coming from ME!

Re: Jimmer Fredette

I think Jimmer has a future as a backup PG in the league. He's got ridiculous range, he's very strong, and is crafty with the ball. He's not uber-athletic or extremely quick though (which is what we're seeing in our current crop of top PGs), so I can't see him being much more than that.

Still, think John Paxson 2012.

Re: Jimmer Fredette

52 points last night. Only 1 FT attempted to get those points too. 22/37 FG with 7/14 3PT to take BYU past New Mexico.

Incredible game. His lack of free throws doesn't scare me at all, in fact, I think it bodes well. If he can score without having to force the issue he'll definately entice a few execs.

He has a strong body though. He's not really blazing athletically but he can take contact around the basket and he's shifty enough to get into the paint.

At College level maybe, but he's not blowing by anybody into the paint at NBA standard with his quicks (or should I call them slows?) ...

I was meaning to say, the fact he can light it up without getting to line bodes well for him because he's going to become a spot up shooter when he makes it to the L.

Re: Jimmer Fredette

Jimmer plays just like Stephen Curry minus the passing ability. I think he goes in the lottery in this weak draft.

Re: Jimmer Fredette

A lot of Jazz fans think they are going to take him, which would probably be the worst thing that could happen to him. You know aside from the money and getting to stick with the BYU honor code.
