Turner didn't exactly turn heads in New York last weekend. He scored a total of 10 points on 4-for-11 shooting in wins versus Iowa and Cal. However, scouts still walked away impressed with his defense and overall game. It should be noted that in Texas' other outings, he's been terrific. He scored 15 points against North Dakota State, blocked six shots versus Alcorn State and then went off for 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-for-12 shooting) on Tuesday against St. Francis (Pa.). Turner went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in that game. He's the rare big who both thrives in the paint defensively and can hurt you from the perimeter offensively. He's going to be up and down all year and scouts worry a bit about the way he runs, but there is a ton of talent oozing from Turner and he's been more productive early than scouts thought he'd be.

Myles Turner is a different type of elite prospect. This isn’t so much an observation, but a story I picked up while talking to the Texas folks. When Turner arrived in Austin over the summer, the team was doing its final conditioning workout at 6 a.m. Strength and conditioning coach Todd Wright told Austin not to come since he wasn't cleared yet to participate. However, Turner had his parents drop him off -- and he sat and watched (actually, cheered his teammates on).

Quote:
Six games into the season, Turner is second among all freshmen in PER and second overall on our Big Board with a fantastic 38.31. That's come as a major surprise to scouts who expected Turner to be the biggest work in progress of all of the elite freshmen. A huge 25-point, 10 rebound performance against St. Francis where he went 11-for-12 from the field was his standout game. Against better competition like Iowa, Cal and UConn he hasn't been nearly as dominant offensively so take the early sample size with a grain of salt. Still, there is one thing he has done consistently and that's block shots and beast on the defensive glass. Turner is averaging three blocks per game in just under 20 minutes per game and has an impressive defensive rebounding rate of 26.2.

Turner, a quality rebounder and shot blocker, is still trying to find his way offensively. His 11-of-12 performance against St. Francis (Pa.) matched a school record for highest single-game shooting percentage, but he struggled in marquee matchups against UConn (1-of-4) and Kentucky (1-for-5). Scouts consider him a project, albeit one with a big upside.

Looking impressive tonight versus Oklahoma on the road. 15/10/6 with 2 minutes to go.

Re: Myles Turner - C/PF - Texas

he has a ton of talent but his outside shot fell apart towards the end of the year. he was crazy underutilized at texas though.
