GM Rankings

These are my rankings using score and record and some of my own feelings. I will value titles over record in most cases.

26. All Rim - Memphis Grizzlies (26th in record, 26th in franchise score, 0 titles, 0 finals appearances) - I mean, worst record and worst score is a pretty easy decision here. He is being patient now and i hope for his sake he stays the course.

25. Andre - New York Knicks - Only been around for 2 seasons - Andre has a nice base of players and picks moving forward and he did win a playoff series! Not much else to say. I wasn't going to list him because he's too new but figured got to start at the bottom to prove yourself. We will see if his dealings have paid off.

24. Mike - Las Vegas Timberwolves (18th in record, 22nd in franchise score, 0 titles, 2 finals appearances) - May seem low for a guy with 2 finals appearances, but he had two of the best players ever in this version (park, chow) and didn’t win. Also got the first and second pick again and is still lotto bound. Seems to be treadmilling as a lotto team which seems really hard to do and also is not good.

23. BJ - Atlanta Hawks (Records arent all his, 0 titles, 0 finals appearances) - Well i have a soft spot for him for mercer, but trading up in a draft where 3-10 were all similar value seemed to push the envelope. He took over a bad team and has put the team in position with multiple top 5 picks rostered, but still needs to find the right balance to move up the list.

22. Jamie - Denver Nuggets (23rd in record, 21st in franchise score, 0 titles, 0 finals appearances) - Jaime was not able to get over the hump with EZ, his rebuild was long and he now has a superstar to try for his first finals appearance in the loaded Landros. An all in move is something Jaime has not pulled yet but may need to make the leap.

21. LGC - Boston Celtics (20th in record, 19th in franchise score, 0 titles, 1 finals appearance) - Sands has saved him, LGC would be better if he was around more but in reality him missing deadlines for UFA and DC’s for playoffs makes him worse. Landed Sands and Wags within a few seasons of each other and has not made the finals is a failure.

20. Zei - Phoenix Suns (15th in record, 18th in franchise score, 0 titles, 0 finals appearances) - The ultimate treadmill team in the league, he has admitted that player arc is way more important for him then winning, which seems clear. Zei seems to come out of rebuilds a little too early. The Purcy love was weird and hindered his rebuild a little. Zei will def win 41.5 this year.

19. SCDN - Golden State Warriors (16th in record, 15th in franchise score, 0 titles, 1 finals apperances) - One of my favorites in the league but just doesn’t seem to put the right mix together. Landed the first pick twice with beau and patton and didn’t get a title. Thats tough. A finals loss is solid and we will see how his moves this year change his teams trajectory.

18. KJ - Chicago Bulls (11th in record, 15th in franchise score, 0 titles, 0 finals appearances) - I think if KJ didn’t run the league he’s a top ten gm, but he has some limitations and i think just runs out teams he wants even if they aren’t practical. He gets bashed for his trades but he has fun. And lets face it he does one hell of a job running the league.

17. Diss - Houston Rockets (21st in record, 20th in franchise score, 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - Diss got his title, but he has not been around a ton in the last few seasons. In the last ten years id be shocked if he wasn’t in the bottom 2 for trades completed. There are opportunities to get better or get value and he just hasn’t been around.

16. Kyle - Cleveland Cavaliers (22nd in record, 23rd in franchise score, 1 title, 2 finals appearances) - Won a title and made the finals at a time when there was another dominant team in the league. I embrace rebuilds and find team building fun, therefore my record and franchise score will never be great, but at least i am around to try and get better.

15. Dan - Charlotte Hornets (17th in record, 17th in franchise score, 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - Dan finally got his title and is poised for a long stretch at the top. Dan seems timid at times to make the deals to put him over the top. In this version he had Cool and Dinz in their primes and wasn’t able to make a finals. He finally makes the deal to put him over the top and get the title.

14. Mike B - Sacramento Kings (15th in record, 19th in franchise score, 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - Mike went into the long rebuild after playoffs in 10 of the first 11 seasons. He was too new to take advantage of Dzanko. He has done well with this rebuild (landing Devine helps). Losing round 1 with a 67 win team is sad. We will see how good he is at resetting when Devine walks after this season.

13. RWE - New Orleans Jazz (12th in record, 12th in franchise score, 2 titles, 2 finals appearances) - RWE won two of the first three titles, then has not made a conference finals in 18 seasons. He had a stretch of 4 years of really good teams but couldn’t get over the top with it. I know he’s busy but there are chances he could have won the title with his most recent run. I value titles over record but these titles are from so long ago it drops RWE a little.

12. Omer - Seattle Supersonics (13th in record, 10th in franchise score, 1 title, 2 finals appearances) - Omer puts the weirdest teams out there (outside of Ken) and somehow figures out how to get them done. He put together the best regular season team in this version (77 wins is impressive!.) He also knocked off a 1 seed for the first time in this version. He has another weird team ready to roll for the 2040 season.

11. Aero - Philidelphia 76ers (10th in record, 9th in franchise score, 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - Aero is another GM who comes and goes as far as being active (never in the chat). His rebuild was long and is finally coming to fruition with Bjornsen leading the charge, if he was more active he would be a top 10 GM i just think he doesn’t make enough moves to move that high up.

10. Ken - Los Angeles Lakers (8th in record, 2nd in franchise score, 0 titles, 2 finals losses) - Ken puts together the strangest lineups in the league and I don’t think anyone will argue it. He plays the UFA game and finally hit, can’t argue with the franchise score and 2 finals appearances are good. i don’t agree with how he builds his team but he still gets results.

9. Smath - Miami Heat (1st in record, 11th in franchise score, 0 titles, 3 finals losses) - One of the best in putting the right talent together in the entire league, he sees players in a different light then others. His record is impressive but since I’m making the list and i value titles over record/score, smath lands in the back end of the top 10. 3 finals losses is rough and squeaks past ken for 9th.

8. Creasy - Indiana Pacers (9th in record, 7th in franchise score, 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - The most team pushing GM in the league. Creasy will make the most trades in the league without a care if it makes him better or worse. Knows when to push in and when to rebuild. His title has him slotted a spot higher then Smath.

7. JayK - New Jersey Nets (7th in record, 5th in franchise score, 1 title, 2 finals appearances) - If this list was done 3 seasons ago he’s a top 5 GM, but he has gone off the deep end a little bit. I don’t see some of the value in the guys he does but he has had success with those guys. Curious to see how he does with his new and improved team.

6. Goulet - OKC - (3rd in record, 3rd in franchise score 1 title, 1 finals appearance) - The voice of KVBL lands at 6 overall, as someone who values players differently, he gets the job done. Always willing to move players around, and is one of the best DCers in the league which will always make him dangerous come playoffs.

5. Bubbles - Milwaukee Bucks (5th in record, 8th in franchise score, 1 title, 3 finals appearances) - Bubbles has clearly been high the last few seasons, and still is top 5 in record and top 10 in score. His team building is not like many others, he can go into the tank for a long rebuild or retool and do both at a high (pun intended) level. His extensions in the last season were questioned but he’s not a guy that will keep the money on the books too long. His 2 extra finals appearances bump him over Goulet.

4. X - Los Angeles Clippers - (14th in record, 16th in franchise score, 3 titles, 5 finals appearances) - I hate this guy. Clearly x is finals or bust like me but he does it a lot better. He makes trades that may hurt value at the time but if it helps him for the title run so be it. These last few seasons have been questionable (moving a first for stu seems to be one of the weirdest trades in recent memory). His middling record and franchise score have him below the three guys above him.

3. Ricky - Portland Trail Blazers (2nd in record, 1st in franchise score, 1 title, 3 finals appearances) - I am sure he’s gonna hate not being first, but i value titles. Ricky has “tread milled” to the second best record and best franchise score in the league. He seems to find values in trades when it seems to be a dead market. His overall record gives him the nod over Bubbles and X.

2. Drizzy - Vancouver Lions - (4th in record, 6th in franchise score, 3 titles, 5 finals appearances) - Drizzy is a beau injury away from being a 4 time title winner, as it is he is tied for the league lead for titles. Drizzy is able to manage the money for long runs at the top. His value he gets in every trade would make it seem like he’s “raping” every time. He pops in and out but always seems to have his team ready to win when its time.

1. Chilly - Toronto Raptors - (6th in record, 4th in franchise score, 3 titles, 5 finals appearances) - Chilly takes the top spot for me, he doesn’t care what others thinks and has only title in mind. Him trading cole and then winning a title before cole is impressive. He takes the top spot because he’s won a title with 3 totally different teams. He knows when is the best time to strike and can find deals when seemingly no one else can. As impressive as the lions and clips were winning back to back, winning with three different teams takes the cake.

Top 10 revealed at a later time. Thank you.
jayk009, Smath, Goulet and 2 others like this.
