Roster notes: Johnny Mac listed as day-to-day.

ANAHEIM -- The Blue Jays filled the opening on their pitching staff on Wednesday afternoon, but probably not with the pitcher that will take Gustavo Chacin's place in the rotation.

The new face in the clubhouse at Angel Stadium actually was familiar.

For the third time in this still-young season, the Jays went into their farm system and promoted right-hander Shaun Marcum from the Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs.

Marcum, who has a 2-0 record and 2.75 ERA in seven appearances (two starts) with Syracuse, figures to be available for long or middle relief for the remainder of the three-game series against the Angels and the opener of a three-game Interleague series against the Rockies on Friday night in Denver.

"We'll have to make another move on Saturday," manager John Gibbons said.

The Jays are expected to promote right-hander Ty Taubenheim from Syracuse and start him on Saturday night against the Rockies, which could mean Marcum returns to the SkyChiefs.

i don't mind the jays mentality for this situation with chacin on the dl...the series with the rockies should be a field day for our jays bats (due to thin colorado air) and more grueling on the pitching...although it's not fair to put a rookie in a major league situation like that, it would be better to put a young fresh arm on the mound for the challenge than to eat up our veteran arms during the series...

this series is more tuned to off-speed pitching (ie: lily) than to the high heat stuff, either way, it would be nice to see one of our young guns on the mound...

Re: Roster notes: Jays recall Shaun Macrum

John McDonald is listed as day to day (in another thread I had said it was the 15 day DL, sorry).

This means we'll see Edgardo Alfonzo, I'm looking forward to see if he's really washed up.
