Mets rally to snake out win
They were wet, they were tired and they still were filling Shea with soccer-style chants more befitting the upcoming World Cup than what would have seemed a lost cause for most teams in baseball.
But Mets fans have come to realize that nothing is truly over with their team until 27 outs have been recorded, and the holiday weekend concluded in increasingly familiar fashion:
With the team's seventh walk-off victory of the season.
The Mets staged a two-run rally in the ninth inning last night to spare Aaron Heilman what would've been a demoralizing loss, beating the West-leading Diamondbacks, 8-7, on David Wright's bases-loaded single to the wall in a soggy game that twice was delayed by rain.
"I keep reiterating it over and over ... but this team always comes back with an answer," Wright said after his bat provided a walk-off RBI for the fourth time this season. "One thing I've learned is that you have to want to be up in those situations ... and I think I've become pretty relaxed when I'm up there with the game on the line."
