Bonds on Broadway
In San Diego, a plastic syringe flew from the stands. In Philadelphia, he was greeted with a banner that read: "Ruth did it on hot dogs & beer. Aaron did it with class. How did you do it?"
Just imagine what Shea fans have in store tonight for Barry Bonds, who makes his first New York appearance less than a week after passing Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list and months after a book chronicling his alleged steroid use was published.
The Mets said security will be beefed up tonight, and while that could prevent any serious threats to Bonds, nothing will able to silence the expected booing and "BALCO" chants the Giants slugger will hear.
"I don't care," is how Bonds responded to a question this week about what kind of reception he will get in New York.
