Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

6/6 - Francisco Liriano vs Felix Hernandez 7:05 PM

4-0, 2.11 / 4-6, 5.78

6/7 - Boof Bonser vs Jamie Moyer 7:05 PM

1-1, 4.50 / 3-5, 3.76

6/8 - Johan Santana vs Joel Pineiro 1:35 PM

5-4, 3.24 / 5-5, 4.76

Opening game is a re-match of two great AL pitching prospects. Felix had one of his best games of the season in his last outing against the Twins, but the offense failed to do anything against Minnesota's young lefty.

Re: Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

I think Felix pitches a 2 hitter, both hits given up to the INSANE Joe Mauer

Top of the 5th

M's - 2
Twins - 1

Joe Mauer is 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a RBI, he is by far the best hitting catcher I have ever seen, and he is the best catcher I have ever seen since the early days of Pizza and way back to Fisk.

Re: Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

Felix pitches seven strong innings, and exits the game with a 4-1 lead. Eddie trys to get the Twins back in the game by surrendering a home run to the first batter he faced and a single to the next batter. Hargrove wasted no time yanking him after that (thank god). Mateo wasn't much better, and it came down to using Sherrill and Putz to close out the inning. Four pitchers to get three outs. Nice bullpen use Hargrove.

None the less, the M's held on to win in 4-2, and have now won five of their last six games, again presenting the illusion that they can compete with the other teams in the AL West. Upcoming series' with Anaheim and Oakland should go a long way to showing where the M's stand out west.

Re: Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

I wonder if the M's can figure out they can bring up a Pitcher from the minors for more than 1 week or 1 bad outing.

Re: Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

Major rollercoaster game for the M's. The Twins go up early, the Mariners rally, eventually building the lead up to 9-4. The bullpen collapses, allowing the Twins to come back and tie the game. The M's are saved by a C-Rex walk off home run in the 11th.

Too bad the M's can't get the sweep since they are facing Johan.

Re: Series 23 - Minnesota at Seattle

They held their own last week when they faced Santana, and didn't blow the game until late. IIRC, they got to him for 4 runs. I'm just not sure that Joel can keep us close enough to steal this one.

First inning: Joel already looks like crap. 1-0 Twins.

Bottom of the first: The Mariners' strike back, a single by Ibanez drives in Beltre. 1-1.
