Update: Yankees, Jeter agree to deal

Apparently the Yankees are basing the Captain's pay based on mere statistics. Clearly this is a franchise set for a swift decline.

Re: Derek Jeter: Not WIN METHOD enough for YANKEES.

There's no baseball logic for paying Jeter the sort of money he's accustomed to and probably expects, particularly not on a long term deal. I wonder how much he makes off the field. I'd guess he could make a fair living doing commercials and tv when he retires.

The Yankees will cave and pay him about double his worth.

There's no real reason to. Either he takes what the Yankees are offering or he goes somewhere else to a lesser team for less money. His choice.

I'd guess that it's worth something substantial for him to remain in NYC, that and there are at least a few hot chicks there he hasn't nailed yet. I hate him now that I think about it.

If he leaves the fans are not going to be pleased.

Report: Yankees, Derek Jeter are about $65-75 million apart

Quote:
Oh boy, I closed my eyes for about seven hours and the story has already changed! What a surprise.

OK, so it’s just a variation of what was reported by Michael S. Schmidt of the New York Times last night, but Anthony McCarron and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News report that Derek Jeter‘s camp has proposed a five-year deal worth between $22-24 million per season.

The only offer we have heard from the Yankees’ side of things is three years at $15 million per season. So, to bring things up to date, there’s still about a $65-75 million difference to make up here.

The best part is that McCarron and Madden write that the two sides are “appear to be inching toward a middle ground.” Really? Sounds like the wrong unit of measurement.

It's hard to believe he actually asked for that without bursting out laughing. That has to be a bargaining position...Or it could be something the Yankees are leaking because it would certainly justify their stand. Fifteen per is too much. His age and his recent performance would barely justify a three year 30 million dollar deal. All the indications are that Jeter is probably in a permanent and natural decline, the fans are going to understand not wanting to pay him two or three times his actual value.

As a Yankees fan all i got to say is he needs to stop being f'n selfish. If his name wasnt Derek Jeter he wouldnt even be asking for close to that much he would be drooling over the 15mil a year deal...Yankees got alot of holes he needs to take the 15mil a year and be happy and let them use the rest on bullpen help and another starter

yeah i'm a Yankee fan and he needs to realize that he is not who he was any more and needs to also realize he was getting overpaid in the first place. he's been the cornerstone of this franchise but that doesn't justify being a total asshat

He stopped around the time the Yanks-Rangers series started or when they obviously were gonna be eliminated.
