AP: Major League Baseball to Take Over Dodgers

This is a major breaking story and there are no facts yet in it but all I can say is...

...there is indeed a God.

Re: AP: Major League Baseball to Take Over Dodgers

There is a little more information coming in now...MLB is taking over the day-to-day operations "because of my (Commissioner Selig's) deep concerns regarding the finances and operations of the Dodgers."

Well, no ****ing ****...its about time.

Hopefully, a righteous individual or group can guy this team and restore it to respectability.

Maybe MLB can ship Matt Kemp to Boston?

He is a free-agent anyways. Boston won't have any money to order peanuts they way they are going.

Re: AP: Major League Baseball to Take Over Dodgers

I know that this is related to family issues in large part, but how in God's Holy Name can a team like the Dodgers have such a pathetic payroll or have a roster that doesn't really contain a legitimate star player except maybe a guy or two who might grow into it. The Red Sox spent more money last winter than they spend on their whole team...ARod probably makes more money than half their roster combined.

Re: AP: Major League Baseball to Take Over Dodgers

Funny thing to say since the NY Mets are probably the next shoe to drop. They probably have even more serious problems than the Dodgers, but everyone hates Frank McCourt and Wilpon appears to be buddies with the commissioner and some of the other owners. Hell that team might end up belonging to all the people Bernie Madoff robbed. It's not like some people are not suspicious that they were actually in on that either.

Thankfully they lose JD Blew this winter, and Papelbon is also likely gone to be replaced by Bard as the closer. So they would have the cash to sign him.

Gonzo's contract from this year to next alone makes up what for you're losing in JD Drew.

From 5.5 to 21 Million.

You're forgetting that Ortiz is coming off the books too, and then Dice-K next year. And they're not going to replace Ortiz externally, his replacement is going to be the cost-controlled Lowrie and Jose Iglesias (that is DH by committee with Lowrie replacing whichever infielder is DHing on any given day).

EDIT: They drop more than $50 million this winter between Drew, Ortiz, Papelbon, Cameron, and Scutaro (though they have an option on Scutaro that they might exercise if they have any concerns about Iglesias). Some of that will go for new deals to Buccholz and (eventually) Lowrie, but not nearly enough to prevent them from making an offer to a righty to replace Drew with.

Don't see it happening. That's two many (pardon the pun) holes you're opening up to replace one.

Re: AP: Major League Baseball to Take Over Dodgers

They already have multiple possible replacements for Ortiz (Anderson, Kalish, Reddick, Lowrie), a replacement for Papelbon, Cameron is their fourth outfielder (with Kalish & Reddick waiting in Pawtucket), and Scutaro is already splitting time with Lowrie, with Iglesias, Oscar Tejada and Yamaico Navarro waiting in the wings. Literally the only hole they need to plug is RF.
