Re: Midseason Awards

AL MVP: Crush Davis - I am on the Cabrera train as much as anyone, but right now the Orioles are overachievers, the Tigers are underachievers. And the fact is that right now at the plate Chris Davis is more important to his team than Miguel Cabrera is to his. With all honesty both guys are red hot at the plate... For every mash that Davis hits, Cabrera mashes one of his own. Or even two. And vice-versa. But Chris Davis seems to be keying wins with his hits, getting them in timely places. It may be more due to his team providing him with those opportunities - but those moments get rewarded when award time rolls around.

AL Cy Young: Hisashi Iwakuma - I don't know if Iwakuma keeps this up all season long, but his numbers across the board nudge me in his direction. I say nudge because there are a lot of deserving candidates right now. He has more innings under his belt than comparable pitchers statistically, and has better numbers than his teammate, King Felix himself in WHIP/ERA both. In terms of K-rate he's not bad enough to rate Felix's >9 rate far ahead of him. He's also got more innings and/or a better record than the two guys ahead of him in WAR (Sale and Bucholz).

AL RoY: Jose Iglesias - Am I missing someone here? I'm going to go with Jose Iglesias, because there really aren't any other viable candidates. This is a weak field. He's on a winning team, has produced 2.4 WAR, and we will see if he can continue to put up the off the chart numbers he's been working on. Right now he's in the drivers seat with no competition.

NL MVP: Carlos Gonzalez Carrying the Rockies into contention. I was ready to hand this to Joey Votto ten games ago, but the Reds have faded hard going into the midpoint. And Goldschmidt has continued to produce, but he just doesn't provide the all around game that CarGo does. As of right now they're close enough to the DBacks that its a rounding error to determine the stronger team (and run differential is in favor of Colorado). He's looking at a 40-30 season, and a .300 batting average, as well as being strong in the field.

NL Cy Young: Adam Wainwright - This one sucks. I could have pulled any one of 7 names out of a hat and made a viable argument for a Cy Young. Matt Harvey? Clay Kershaw? Cliff Lee? Pat Corbin? Jordan Zimmerman? Then you have Strasburg, Miller, and Locke! The last three I DQ on the basis of lack of innings thus far - none of them are within 4 starts of matching the leaders in innings pitched in that first group. Wainwright gets the nod based on consistently going deep into games (reflected in his W/L), and having stellar peripherals all around. I really only chose him over Kershaw based on the 4 extra innings pitched. Its really that close - and those four innings, spread out over four starts, could be the big reason he has so many more wins than Kershaw. And that was a tiny thread to base that argument on, but I'm going with it. Its that or "Hell if I know."

NL Roy: Shelby Miller - This is Shelby Miller's award for Yasiel Puig to take. Seriously. As of this moment I give it to Miller - he's on the fringe of the Cy Young race right now, he's a no doubt Rookie of the Year at the moment. Jose Fernandez also could conceivably pass him by season's end and at this rate Yasiel Puig will pass him by July's end... but right now this award is Shelby Miller's and will be until it is yanked inevitably from his grasp.

Re: Midseason Awards

AL MVP - Chris Davis (runner up Miguel Cabrera, no one else close)
AL Cy Young - Hisashi Iwakuma (Yu Darvish, Max Scherzer, Felix Hernandez in the discussion)
AL ROY - Jose Iglesias (I guess? Hopefully Wil Myers, Mike Zunino or Nick Franklin put together a good second half and give us a respectable winner)

NL MVP - Paul Goldschmidt (by a hair over Carlos Gonzalez. Yadier Molina should be in the discussion too)
NL Cy Young - Adam Wainwright (just over Matt Harvey, Clayton Kershaw and Patrick Corbin)
NL ROY - Shelby Miller (wanted to go with the homer Jose Fernandez pick, but just couldn't yet. Puig is obviously working into the discussion as well. They should give the runner up here the AL ROY)

Could have been identical if not for your Goldschmidt choice. Still a good one - he's slugging it. Glad to see I'm not the only one perplexed by how awful the AL rookies have been so far.

Re: Midseason Awards

Personal preference in Goldschmidt over CarGo, could go either way. I think I probably punish Gonzalez a bit for playing half his games at Coors, even though he's been great on the road this year and the fact that he's arguably not even the best or most valuable player on his own team. Tulo just never stays healthy.

Tulo is killing me. He should have an MVP under his belt, or one coming - and the way his body keeps failing him, he'll never reach that level. Its a damn shame.

Most annoying discussion of the first half: you know what it is.

Can someone edit this? You-know-who is like a fat kid to cake, don't bring that crap up if you don't want him spouting his incessant nonsense.

*note: Edited
