Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10...ll-fame-ballot

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Four-time Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux, two-time winner Tom Glavine and two-time AL MVP Frank Thomas are among 19 newcomers on this year's Hall of Fame ballot, joining PEDs-tainted holdovers Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa.

Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Kenny Rogers, Jeff Kent, Moises Alou and Luis Gonzalez also are among the players eligible to be voted on for the first time by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

The 36-player ballot also will include Armando Benitez, Sean Casey, Ray Durham, Eric Gagne, Jacque Jones, Todd Jones, Paul Lo Duca, Richie Sexson, J.T. Snow and Mike Timlin, the Hall said Tuesday.

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Hard for me to see how Maddux, Glavine and Thomas do not all get to directly to the Hall. The voters have to be really eager to see someone on the ballot that they can vote for without having to hold their noses. All of them have the HoF-worthy resumes and no one thinks they juiced.

Really looks like those three are going to have a clear field too, because most of those other names just don't ring out. Mussina is going to get votes I am sure though.

I agree, but then again Roberto Alomar somehow didn't get in on the first ballot so who knows?

My first thought when seeing the thread title and it being cut off after Frank Thomas before clicking on it was almost "suspected of steroids" instead of "on HOF Ballot". Almost.

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Kinda sad people dont think of Mike Mussina as a HOFer. 270 career wins really wish he didnt retire after the 20 win season and tried to push to 300 wins because then no one would say he wasnt a HOF

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

And do people really think there is a chance Maddux doesnt get first ballot? If he doesnt that is f'n sad for baseball and they should come up with a new way for HOF voting. He should come close to 95% of the vote Also Glavine should be close to 80%

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Wait nevermind the Baseball HOF is already totally bullshit. Some how Craig Biggio didnt get in for try and Fred McGriff Career 490HR 280 Avg get 20% of the vote to get in

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Mussina will get in perhaps, but he has no chance this year. Those three guys are going to be on virtually all of the ballots and that is going to make it really difficult for anyone else to get any sort of traction this year.

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Maddux might have a chance of being unanimous. When you think about it, I can't see how you could explain not putting him on the ballot. Dude is top ten all time in wins and Warren Spahn is the only 'modern' pitcher ahead of him

Re: Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas on HOF ballot

Maddux is in. He won't be unanimous.
Glavine is in. He'll be comfortably in.
Thomas is in, he'll be a closer call than Glavine.
Biggio is in, he'll barely make it in.
Mussina just misses.
Morris just misses.
Piazza, Bagwell, Raines all miss by a small gap.

Did I miss any major contenders there? Those are my calls.

People I think deserve in: the four I said are in, Mussina, Bagwell, and Raines.
Piazza does as well but as a roid suspect he's got no chance.
