Why would the Braves do this?

Heyward is a good but he is proof that WAR is a overrated stat. It is a solid deal for both Cards also got a good Middle Reliever so i think they won the deal right now because i have no idea who the prospect is

They must think they can't re-sign him and I guess the market just sucked for a player with one year left on his contract.

If you're going to be bad, having the best closer does you no good. Might as well trade Kimbrel as well.

Jenkins was the Cardinals #14 prospect, 22 years old and still in A ball.

To get value, teams have to give it.

Shelby Miller had worn out his welcome in St. Louis. He'll be very good in Atlanta.

The death of Oscar Taveras is what caused this deal.

Hayward is a free agent after this year and seems hell bent on reaching free agency.. The cardinals may regret this deal if they don't win the series and lose him after the season.

Re: Cardinals trade for Jason Heyward

Heyward is one of the best defensive outfielders in the Show, but he is pretty ordinary otherwise. The Braves need to get more bats though. They have adequate pitching (if all their injured guys ever stop being hurt), but they can't score for shit.
