MLB HOT STOVE: Don't touch this thread, its hot.

So... Here was my Winter 2011 wish list for Detroit:

Winter wish list... Mark Buehrle, Yoenis Cespedes, Kelly Johnson. Go get'em Tigers.

Considering Buehrle is still doing exactly what we'd expect Mark Buehrle to do, and he hasn't gone off to live in a cave in the woods yet... Cespedes developed into something very good (and eventually wound up in Detroit for a minute)... That's still hitting .667 on those ideas.

Facebook told me I posted the above list as a status four years ago today. And amusingly enough: all three are on the market right now again!

My 2015 Winter wish list....

Considering what they've already got...
Yoenis Cespedes. I think he carves out the sort of `30s, health given, that makes him a Hall of Fame discussion guy, if not one. He does so many things on the diamond.

Zack Greinke. Just break the damn piggy bank Avila. Its what Mr I wants.

And beyond that just shore up the pen around K-Rod. Despite all the holes in the roster last year - Detroit's already taken care of some other spots I'd have needed to mention. Maybin fills the role Davis had last year. K-Rod fills the back end of the pen. Full seasons of a healthy Verland/Daniel Norris will help. Anibal Sanchez is really really good every few years. Right? Right. Right? Fuck. But yeah they're relying on the health of some old dudes so it could all break wrong again for the Tigers. Cabrera, Verlander, K-Rod, V-Mart are all in premier roles for the team. K-Rod has been a rock everywhere, but he's getting up there in years. So yeah you lose those guys, you lose the season.

But youth that can play (next year ages)...

Daniel Norris (23) - he's gonna be a number one. Maybe not this year. But he's gonna pitch like a number one a lot this year. Consistency will be big.

Castellanos (24) - almost a league average 3B last year, and his hitting in the second half showed a lot of improvement. I see anything from .280/20 to .300/30 out of him.

Jose Iglesias (26) - Look, some guys can just PLACE a ball. Ichiro could do it. Lots of speedy guys can do it. Iglesias can do it. He's a gold glove caliber short stop who gives you an empty .300 at the back end of the lineup. That is really damn nice to have at short.

Brian McCann (25) - He's gonna have a long and strong big league career, health given. As a true rookie he handled the rotation well, improved his receiving month over month. He didn't show that he can adjust to the way the league pitches him, but he still held his own even at its worst as a rookie receiver. I think he'll be fine.

JD Martinez (28) - He's only 28. He's got a few more years of this in him. Last year confirmed what 2014 hinted at and had us hopeful for. JD Martinez has a great outfield arm, has grown better and better at his routes, and as a hitter - he clubs it. He's Miggy Junior. No one is Miggy, but he models his entire approach after Miggy and it is clear he's got it down.

Anthony Gose (25) - Very strong in CF. It isn't clear yet if he'll improve at bat - but his eye has improved year over year. If he's flanked by Martinez and (fingers crossed) Cespedes and has Maybin to platoon him he's a very good role player.

These are all guys holding down premier positions. Gose as the outfield captain, Martinez middle of the order masher, McCann captaining the infield, Iglesias one of the best at a position that requires a premier player, Castellanos potentially a five hole guy in the batting order and average at a decent-tough defensive spot. Detroit can compete with the Royals for some years to come with the right free agent signings and health breaking right with the old guys. But they're not the Phillies. Despite what a lot of people have been saying all year. Dombrowski is a phenomenal GM, and was going to keep Detroit competitive for the next ten years if he stuck around that long. As it is he massively delayed their decline and Al Avila is going to have a core in its 20s to keep them relevant going into any given season through the next three-four "if Verlander and Cabrera stay healthy."

Tigers reportedly in serious conversations with Jordan Zimmerman right now. Depending on the price, I'm happy with it. They can't overpay for someone that under ideal circumstances is going to be their third/fourth starter. Overall he's probably a high end third big league starter, and on consistency and durability he's going to get paid like a number two or maybe even a low-end number one (which is where I don't want the Tigers going).

I was hoping for 15-18M a year.... 22M for Zimmerman just feels like an overpay. You do you Mr I.

Considering Marco Estrada just got $13M and J.A. Happ got $12M, $15-18M for Zimmermann wasn't happening.

I mean Happ got $12 million for what, 6-7 insanely good starts? $22 million for Zimmerman might prove to be a bargain.

So I have to think the Cubs will be near the top of contention for David Price, but I think we need to bring back Jeff Samardzija either way.

I think Henry's opening the vault on the recommendation of Dombrowski, though Boston's pursuing Cueto as option B.

Looks like the Cubs are out of contention for David Price.

Price to Red Sox for 7 years and $217 million (and promise of no David Ortiz? Just kidding)

I'm fine with it as Jays fan. It's not a good ballpark for him and I would not have given him that contract. Maybe if he was better in the playoffs.

Apparently contract has an opt out after 3 years.

Fenway? Fenway is great for big long lefties. Those right field bleachers do a great job of disguising the arm action. It doesn't affect Red Sox hitters as much because they're used to the view, but visitors struggle with it.

I guess my mistake about the park after seeing his career record there. But look at his post season record too.
