GS gets credit for doing what they were supposed to do and beat whoever was in front of them. That was last year though.

We're onto 2015-2016 now and everyone starts over healthy (for the most part). GS was great last year; but now there's a year of film on them. OKC will be back. SA just got way tougher. Cleveland is going into the season with their core team, unlike last year. GS is not going to be the favorites, nor should they be. Now especially after adding David West, I really like SA's chances out west.

Look I get what you're saying. I just think you're discounting the Warriors far too much for other teams getting unlucky. This is a team that just ran rough-shod over the league for 82 games, unleashing a historic regular season, and then you're right: they didn't face the toughest the West had to offer. But they also had absolutely no fucking trouble. To assume San Antonio or the Clippers would have stopped them for sure is asinine to me. I don't think San Antonio or the Clippers SHOULD HAVE BEEN the favorites if they'd played GSW last season (would San Antonio have been? I think they would have been listed as such).

And the Warriors are going to be an improved team. Steph Curry is just entering his prime. Klay Thompson is just entering his prime. Draymond Green is just entering his prime. Harrison Barnes just keeps getting better and isn't even near his prime. Andrew Bogut can take the beating in the post all season to keep some of the defensive weight off of the other guys again. I doubt Andre Iguodala's work ethic or leadership dissipate over night, he certainly didn't look done or even about to fall off playing strong and rested through the playoffs.

This team that ran roughshod over the league for 82 games is loaded up with talent that is getting better. And they didn't really lose much of anything this off season.

I get what you're saying - San Antonio is San Antonio. San Antonio will never die. They'd have been favored like I said earlier (though I don't think they should have been) if they'd played Golden State. But there are A LOT of old legs in San Antonio. David West is just that - more old legs. And I can't call them the favorites until I see what they've got left. I have to go with the younger team that just won a championship, and is improving. Of course I expect San Antonio to be a spectacular basketball team - I get that. But they're human beings, and eventually every one of them is going to fall off like Tony Parker did last season.

I get the addition of LA. But LA+KL and a bunch of guys finally falling off of the table? That's trouble.

Cleveland I'd be more optimistic about. And I'd call them the clear favorites out of the East, and thus the clear favorites to win it all. But head to head with Golden State, assuming GSW makes it through the Western Conference grinder again healthy - I don't know if I can make a call there. Cleveland is bringing in no one new to rock the boat at the top, Love knows his place in the offense and can begin to find comfort and explore his role more, Kyrie and Lebron will have more cohesion... And you don't bet against Lebron.

But just talking in terms of out WEST I can't call anyone but Golden State my favorite. Not until I see Kevin Durant's foot or San Antonio's continued defying of the aging curve.

From a talent standpoint, Johnson is absolutely the better option. But I like the idea of Shumpert staying in the starting line up. He's a good defender who can hit the spot up three pointer while also possessing the ability to provide scoring in other ways as well. He's the kind of SG Cleveland desperately needed. I don't think Johnson would fit in as well. As the sixth man though? Him and Mo Williams (assuming he signs) would prove to be an incredible scoring duo off the bench.

Cavs like Crawford, Clippers like Mike Miller, I believe.

Funny to think of Joe Johnson being willing to take a sixth man role after things at the Suns.

I think he'll probably start over Shumpert if he does wind up in Cleveland.

Re: Cavs: 2016 NBA Champs?

I want to hate on the Warriors too, for beating up on injured teams but the fact is they have pretty much near 5 all-stars on the squad and the best shooter to ever play the game. hard to count a team like that out, even with all of the Spurs additions. a Warriors repeat is not out of the question entirely...

that said, my finals for this year is 2007 remixed.

He's never really struck me as dumb... and he's now had an entire prime to take a team deep into the playoffs and do some damage. But it just hasn't happened. I think he probably still sees himself as a starter, but if the right team and situation came along I could see him agreeing to lead a bench unit.

There seem to be three dominant personalities regarding the bench among starters:
1. It is insulting, and it won't be accepted.
2. It is insulting if I'm not given the role I see myself deserving.
3. I'll take it and roll with it and be a soldier.

I see Joe Johnson in that middle group. If you put him in Cleveland and tell him he's going to be a supercharged version of Iguodala - they sell it to him as he's taking a respected and important championship role, and he's making it more prestigious still by his presence. I think he'd destroy most bench units all season long too. He's not an Iguodala, in terms of the way he plays - but he'd have a similar impact on their bench with his scoring ability and size.

That said... I don't think Cleveland would risk rocking the boat by doing more than asking him what he thinks, and seeing how he reacts first. And if he doesn't react positively, if he sees his best role for the team as the starter, they'd take him in as a starter and avoid rocking the boat - because even in that instance, at least to start the season, you give Joe that role on Lebron's team, and if Joe can't co-exist... Lebron gets to decide where Joe fits in the rotation.

With any other superstar I think I'd avoid allowing it. I don't think I'd have ever given Lebron all the freedom he has in Cleveland to make personnel decisions, but they decided that they had to do it - and they've established the precedent. This is his team.

Man I meandered on that post...

I honestly think Andre Iguodala winning Finals MVP is going to have a very positive impact on many guys moving forward regarding this issue. Joe is more likely to accept a bench role today than he would have been before the Finals.

It wasn't just the Iggy took a reduced role and went on to win the title. He also managed to win a prestigious individual award in the process. Guys will take notice of that.
