De'Aaron Fox - G - Kentucky

No. 1 2016 point guard De'Aaron Fox commits to Kentucky Wildcats

Quote:
John Calipari has landed another point guard for the future.

And it's another point guard unlike any he's had before.

Standing 6-foot-4, De'Aaron Fox is a lengthy point guard with great ball skills, terrific slashing ability and the range to defend at least three positions. And on Thursday evening, Fox verbally committed to the Kentucky Wildcats. He is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the country and the best point guard.

"It felt like a family there, when I went on my visit," Fox said on ESPNU. "When I got off the airplane there, people were greeting me like I've been there my whole life."

The spindly Fox, who hails from Katy, Texas, picked UK over Arizona, Kansas, Louisville and LSU. The commitment will surely move Kentucky, which was No. 11 in 247 Sports' teams rankings for 2016 recruiting classes, into the top five.

Fox is considered by some to be the best point guard in the Class of 2016 ... which is also considered by most in the basketball world to be the deepest group of floor generals coming out of the high school ranks in a decade. So this is a huge get for Calipari. Former point guards ranked No. 1 in their class: Derrick Rose, John Wall, Marquis Teague, Andrew Harrison and Jamal Murray.

You'll notice all of those guys share one college coach: Cal. Fox said on TV he'd spoken to some of Calipari's previous point guards, and that was a factor as well.

"If I can go to school for one year, then I will," Fox said. "If I can get drafted, I want to. I don't have a timetable for how long I want to stay in college, but if it happens to be one year, it will be one year."

Fox joins five-star late bloomer Wenyen Gabriel and power forward Sacha Killeya-Jones, another blue chip recruit in UK's 2016 crop.
