This means absolutely nothing, but since I was perusing ESPN's site, I thought I'd share. Looks like Lunardi, in his wisdom, has the AE (Albany) in the play-in game next year against the SWAC, and the CAA getting only one bid.

The Media Never Learns

Does anyone really think that the AE champ (assuming it isn't some fluke) will end up in the play-in game in 2007?

It could. I think that UA should play as tough an OOC as it can to keep it out of the P-I-G.

The rest of the AE could be better, but you never know.

I think it's more likely the CAA gets one bid than the AE play in the PIG. However, I don't think either scenario is probable. Possible, but not probable.

I guess it could. But if I was going to pick the PIG now, I'd have a hard time picking the America East champ in one of those slots. The conference was down in 05-06, and we managed to avoid the play-in this year. The league should be better next year.

I guess the more interesting discussion is just how much capital did we earn with our post-season performances this year? There was a lot of talk here about how much UA's performance against UConn helped the America East, and how GMU's performance helped the CAA. I'm not going to get too worked up over Lunardi's predictions one year out, but I think it does raise some of those questions.
After all the excitement the America East and CAA provided this year, that's the gratitude we get!

Lunardi at this point is no more accurate than any other talking head...

Anyone trying to determine the bracketology for next year at this point in time is basically throwing darts at a board...it would be more difficult than predicting what the 2006 NFL season would look like before free agency or the draft.

I agree - which is why I predicated it by saying that it really means nothing. But since there isn't much else to talk about, why not take an opportunity to bash Lunardi (and the national media) a bit! :)
Since CBS has the broadcast rights to the Big Dance, and since CBS pays a lot of money to the NCAA for these rights, is there anyone else out there with a slightly sneaky suspicion that CBS has SOME influence over the final seedings? Let's say there are four #4 seeds identified. The region that each gets placed in is governed somewhat by rules involving interConference play, etc. but does it really matter whether a #1 seed in Region I plays a particular #4 seed over another? If that is true (and I don't know that it is), I like to speculate that the Selection Committee calls Billy Packer and asks, "Billy, all things being equal, would you rather broadcast UConn and Kansas in the potential 1/4 matchup, or would you enjoy commentating on UConn and Illinois? Billy says: "Who would want to watch UConn/Kansas? It's not a very sexy matchup. Give me Illinois. I like Dee Brown and Jim Augustine."

Does anyone think this scenario is even remotely possible?

If...and that is a big IF...UA gets to the dance as a the AE champ and finishes either 1 or 2 in the regular season, there is no way IN HELL they get the PIG.

OOC:

at UCONN
at UTAH
at UTAH VALLEY STATE
at SIENA

VCU (Home)

Probable Bracket Buster.

PLAY IN GAME.....Not a chance in Hades with that OOC unless we have a terrible and I do mean terrible (as in 500 or sub 500) winning pct.

CBS Sportsline has Albany winning the AE next year as well.
At least Lunardi has an America East team *winning the America East* this year!

If you'll recall last year, in his first Bracketology for the 05-06 season, Joe Lunardi went out on a limb and said the 05-06 AE Champion will be...Northeastern.

And last I checked, Northeastern didn't win a single game in AE play last year

How does this guy stay on the payroll more than 3 months out of the year?
