Can anyone shed some light on the lack of recruiting news by UMBC and Odom? One year ago they made history in the tourney. A year later they make it back to the AE championship without their two stars from the previous year. It's clear this man can coach and has stayed committed to UMBC despite offers to coach at a higher level. What is possibly getting in the way of landing some solid talent?

I have no idea. And the fact you just got a kid to transfer from Oklahoma State makes me so fucking grumpy.

The only thing I can surmise is no one believes Odom will be there long enough to see out their eligibility.

No idea either, but UMBC can continue to not capitalize on its win over Virginia, new arena, and hot rising coach as far as UVM is concerned!!

I think other coaches are hammering this on the recruiting trail.
But Ryan Odom's not exactly the only desirable mid-major coach who has ever been on 24-hour Departure Watch, right? I'm not saying it doesn't play *some* part with *some* kids. But if that's at all true, it would be disappointing that Odom isn't savvy enough to navigate that.

The answer I did expect from most UMBC fans on this board was, "If I knew what the problem was, I wouldn't be wasting my time here!" :)

This article from 4/4/19 paints a rather rosier picture, more in line with what we would have expected.
Years from now, people will recall last March when Odom, 44, led the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to a 74-54 victory over Virginia in the first round. It was the first time a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed.

The outcome introduced UMBC’s basketball team and the University in general to a national audience, which Odom says has helped with recruiting and attracting more applications to the school.

We are definitely trying to get better players. We just lost two offers to BYU and Nevada.

I’m sure there is a plan and I just don’t know enough to understand what it is yet. I’m not 100% sold on our head of recruiting.

One would figure that if Odom thought we were close to winning the conference again, he would be looking for immediate impact players and also transfers who showed they could compete at this level for the following year. We will have a few juniors graduating.

That is a tough thing to balance.

This is just my own personal opinion, but I think in the not too distant future Odom will be named the next HC at Wake. Wake has recently hired a new AD and a 7ft recruit Charles Coleman from my area just decommited from Wake/Manning.

If Manning didn’t have such a monster buyout I think it would have probably happened already.

Starting to look interesting for 19/20!

  • UVM: Keeps being UVM and doing UVM things
  • UA: Starting lineup becomes Soph's, adds JoJo Anderson, Jerotic, and 2 talented Freshman, with one more coming
  • UMBC: not much added yet, but they will be there again
  • SBU: lose a coach and their best player, but great recruits
  • Bing- Bringing in size, return the ROY, and will be better
  • Hart: Lose everything, but adding a 4 star and a 3 star recruit as transfers has to keep them in decent shape
  • UML: lose a great player, but they have a great coach and a solid core
  • Maine: Improvements shown last year, I bet they continue to improve and surprise some people again this year
  • UNH: probably still the worst team in D1 this coming season...

By this, I assume you mean UVM fans already anointing the team conference champions for next year?:lol:

Two BCS castoffs and it's a lock...just like it was a lock when 3 star Kpedi and the incredible Nash were recruited. Only question is how many kids on the current roster will be drafted top 15 in the NBA draft in 2019 and 2020...I'm no Nostradamus so can't see into 2021 but I'm assuming a few.

Ha! Solid post!

Sometimes it's hard to discern if the UVM fans are just trolling or actually believe the shit they are posting.

4 dances this decade is 4 dances, only Albany comes close with 3...we'll see if we can square that count up this year. Still find it amazing that 2 schools are responsible for 7 out of the 10 championships this decade. 1 of the remaining 3 isn't even in this league and the other two years only 2 other schools broke through 1 for each (SBU and UMBC).

Crazy!

We’ve managed to be pretty successful since Nash and Kpedi joined, although fair to say it’s not been because of their contributions.

Regardless of who we added, UVM was still going to be the pre-season #1 next season even if we added two traffic cones with the two scholarships.

Anything can happen, and I’m still kind of concerned with our 3pt shooting for next year, but I’ll still take us against the field right now-by a good margin.

I just KenPommed for stats; Smith and Lamb shot the same percentage last year. It felt like Smith was more inconsistent than that. Good for us.

But Moll and Davis on the other hand...

Well, have you looked at the field?

Stony Brook will be very interesting next year. They've gone all in on length and athleticism which isn't traditionally a winning formula in the AE but since I've been following the conference I don't think there's been an AE team as long and athletic as next years Stony Brook squad. They'll be fun to watch. We will see how it works out in the wins and losses

UVM is going to be pretty long next year too!

Guards:
R Duncan- 6'6"
Becket- 6'5" (may RS)

Wings-
Patella- 6'6"
Ev Duncan- 6'7"
Moll- 6'7"

Bigs-
Giddens- 6'11", best "athleticism" UVM has had since Blakely
Lamb- Only 6'6" but was the 2nd best shot blocker in the league behind the SBU guy
Davis- 6'10", not super athletic though (maybe that will change with a healthy offseason?), plays with solid fundamentals

UVM will probably roll out some jumbo line ups of:

PG- RDUNC 6'6"
SG-EVDUNC 6'7"
SF- Lamb 6'6"
PF- Davis 6'10"
C- Giddens 6'11"
Total inches: 400"

What's the biggest line up that each team may roll out next year?

For some reason you overlooked Ben Shungu...yes, he's listed at 6'2" but his wingspan is impressive...since your post is about "length" and not height, he should be included.
