Back again for those who care to show off their upset picking prowess.

We did this back in 2012 and 2013 and then again in 2019.

This is an NCAA pool that is simple enough, but tests your ability to pick out those mid-range seeds that will do some damage rather than nailing the ultimate tournament winners.

You simply pick 5 teams and each time one of your teams wins a game, you get points equal to their seeding. So if you pick a #10 seed and they win two games, you get 20 points. Pick a #1 seed that wins 5 games and you get 5 points. You don't get any points for a play-in game victory, but you can have two teams for the price of one (so you can pick Michigan State and UCLA as a single selection and pick up 66 points -- 11 seed multiplied by 6 wins -- when either of the two adds to their trophy case)

If you want to see how the contest works in practice, the links to the prior versions are below:

2019 Tournament won by GroovyUV(m)

Man, this was way more difficult than I imagined it would be. Going with:

Rutgers (10)
Texas Tech (6)
Winthrop (12)
Oklahoma State (4)
UCSB (12)

And just because I'm weird, here are the teams picked so far and the number of times selected:

#3 Arkansas - 1
#3 Kansas - 1
#4 Virginia - 1
#4 Florida State - 2
#4 Oklahoma State - 3
#5 Tennessee - 2
#6 Texas Tech - 2
#6 USC - 1
#7 UConn - 3
#7 Oregon - 3
#9 Wisconsin - 1
#10 Virginia Tech - 1
#10 Rutgers - 3
#11 Syracuse - 1
#11 Mich State/UCLA - 2
#12 UCSB - 2
#12 Winthrop - 2
#14 Colgate - 1
#15 Iona - 1

Nobody seems to like the 13 seeds (Ohio, UNC Greensboro, North Texas or Liberty). I like Purdue but almost took North Texas to beat them. Purdue also happens to be the only #4 seed nobody has selected yet.

Make of this what you will...I only report the facts lol.

I noticed that Rutgers & UConn were popular picks (maybe our forum collectively has a NE bias :) )

With Friday's games in the books, here's how things are shaping up. If you spot any errors, let me know as I just did this quickly and will do a more thorough check after Round 1 finishes tonight.

Just to make the notation clear:
-- A team with a ? is still alive. A team without a question mark and with a 0 in their parenthetical is finished
-- A team like Syracuse which has played and won their first game shows their seed with a comma and a ? indicating that they still have more to play (11,?). If they win again it will show (11,11,?)
-- A team like Virginia which has not yet played their first game shows (4?), which is really just a place-holder so we can see their seed.
-- A team which is out of the tournament will have a 0 at the end of their string. If Syracuse loses their second game, they will show (11,0).

BingGrad (26 / 5 teams left) – Syracuse (11, ?), Texas Tech (6, ?), Virginia (4?), Wisconsin (9, ?), UConn (7?)
umainealum (20 / 4 teams left) – Rutgers (10,?), Texas Tech (6,?), Winthrop (0), Oklahoma State (4,?), UCSB (12?)
umbc32244 (15 / 4 teams left) – Texas (3?), Purdue (0), Oklahoma State (4, ?), Syracuse (11,?), UNC-Greensboro (13?)
Albany Weave (14 / 4 teams left) – North Carolina (0), Oklahoma State (4, ?), UConn (7?), Ohio (13?), Rutgers (10, ?)
Bearcatbball22 (10 / 5 teams left) – Rutgers (10, ?), Georgetown (12?), UConn (7?), Oregon (7?), Arkansas (3?)
iBOsbu (10 / 4 teams left) – UCLA (11?), Rutgers (10,?), Florida State (4?), Tennessee (0), Oregon (7?)
Mr. Quint (10 / 4 teams left) – Oklahoma State (4,?), Florida State (4?), San Diego State (0), Texas Tech (6, ?), Ohio (13?)
lsbal (4 / 4 teams left) – Uconn (7?), Winthrop (0), Kansas (3?), Georgetown (12?), Oklahoma State (4,?)
popolamma (4 / 4 teams left) – USC (6?), Colgate (0), Oklahoma State (4,?), Iona (15?), UCLA (11?)
plash.ricrem (0 / 3 teams left) – Florida State (4?), Arkansas (3?), Purdue (0), San Diego State (0), USC (6?)
Alumni 96 (0 / 3 teams left) – Florida State (4?), Oregon (7?), Virginia Tech (0), UCSB (12?), Tennessee (0)

Good thing I don’t do this for a living....especially after watching this Georgetown game
It's really one of the great things about the tournament -- you discover teams that you hadn't seen all year, no matter how much you follow things. And you discover that teams you think are on a roll and unstoppable are suddenly easily neutralized...

I've had an odd year and really haven't been able to follow sports at all - so I know nothing about college hoops this season other than the little bit I see about the AE and some Big East news. I just picked some teams almost at random based on name recognition -- hence my high score after day 1! In the years that I could have told you all about who was finishing the season on a roll in the MVC, I would flame out miserably on day one.
