For as dominant as Vermont has been under Coach Becker, (7 straight regular season titles, 4 conference titles in 7 years) this actually the first time under his tenure that UVM has made the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
5 AE tourney champs in 7 years is as dominant as any stretch in the AE. Unfortunately Covid robbed a tourney experience but we have never seen a reign like this.

Yesterday Lunardi had us as a 14 seed, playing UConn in Albany, which is too good to be true. Today he still has us 14 playing UConn, but in Greensboro.

Oh please put us in ALBANY…
I was surprised to learn that Lunardi actually isn’t all that good at predicting the bracket. Bracket Matrix has him ranked 88th out of about 150 “bracketologists” in the last 5 years. I tend to watch Bracket Matrix’s composite rankings, as that gives a better idea of where teams are ranked. Or I’ll look at the rankings of the handful of top bracketologists. Seems like this year we’ll be a 15 seed, and actually closer to a 16 than a 14. We’ll know for sure in a few hours, though.

It's almost as if the guy employed by a network that loves forcing certain narratives through its programming might, just might have an internal bias to help those who pay him to show up from his "bunker" to create debate topics for its studio shows and pundits and not the most accurate bracket! Who knew?

One of the sites on that list, Warran Nolan is lowkey one of the most helpful websites I've found, especially with their charts that track quadrant wins and team/conference NET for both men and women. Not surprised to see it high in the accuracy rankings for bracketology.

Ok, thx good to know. Like many people, I just go with ESPN. He seems like a good guy, guess doesn’t do any better job than all the other bracket watchers. Was getting my hopes up for a game in Albany. We’ll see.

I’ve always said, sit three of these guys at a kitchen table, and their brackets would be just as good and fair as what the NCAA Selection Committee comes up with. The self-importance of the committee is humorous. We’ll soon see the interview between Nantz and the empty suit chairman, and he’ll give us nothing.

I try to limit the 2023 Recruiting Thread to either firm offers or commitments, so here's a list of transfers that have reportedly "heard from" UVM since jumping in the portal. There are probably more, but these are ones I've seen where we've made someone's hilariously-long Notes App list...

Xander Rice, Bucknell (1 to play): Xander Rice - Men's Basketball - Bucknell University Athletics

Paxson Wojcik, Brown (1 to play): Paxson Wojcik - Men's Basketball - Brown University Athletics

Mike Meadows, Portland (1 to play): Mike Meadows - Men's Basketball - University of Portland Athletics

Anthony Selden, Gardner-Webb (2 to play): Anthony Selden - Men's Basketball - Gardner-Webb University Athletics

Coleton Benson, Army (3 to play): Coleton Benson - 2022-23 - Men's Basketball - Army West Point

Denver Anglin, Georgetown (3 to play): Denver Anglin - Men's Basketball - Georgetown University Athletics

Again, caution: In all of these instances, we were one of 12-15 schools listed, so being "involved" doesn't begin to tell us just how involved.

My guess is we're involved up until a point where some of these guys only want to play BCS/try a higher level, then once that's been made clear then we're not involved.

Add another one to the list...

Blaise Beauchamp, Evansville (At least 2 to play, possibly 3: Left UE after 9 games this season): Blaise Beauchamp - Men's Basketball - University of Evansville Athletics

Man, I'd love to get back to the day's of 4 (even 5 if RS) year players being the core of a team. Hopefully it was just a COVID blip.

That said, Portal seems to be way of the world now and here for good.

Anglin's father played at Champlain College in the late 1980s and went to St. Bonaventure after. His brother, Dallas was pretty well-traveled in his playing career (I think he got recruited a little bit out of HS by UVM...why the name/connection sounded familiar): Dallas Anglin College Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com

15 for 85 from 3? oooofff.
I saw that too, I think that sometimes comes down to coaching - whether that be telling a kid not to shoot as many threes, or having a system that gives them better looks from three. To bring this back to the current team, Penn has actually had a decent year shooting it from 3 (33%), when that was supposed to be one of his downsides - he shot 24% from 3 last year. His attempts are down a bit (54 vs 62), but he really only seems to be taking open looks (apart from the Bing semis game where he just took over).

My takeaways are this: 1) better coaching/system helps improve 3 point shooting %, and 2) Penn has done an awesome job improving his efficiency - 2 point shooting 58% (up from 53%), 3 point shooting 33% (up from 24%), free throws 85% (up from 72%). For added measure his turnovers dropped from 2.9 to 1.6.
