Would not be surprised to see AD testing the portal waters. This would leave another hole at the 1/2.
I don't disagree, but given he didn't participate in Senior Night (if he did, please correct me) I would bank on him coming back - or at least at the time his plan was to come back. In the hypothetical world where Becker finds a new job, maybe that changes, but time will tell.

Curious, why didn't you state that in your initial post? Sure, nothing is a lock. But... he didn't participate in senior night. And have you heard the way Becker glowingly speaks of him? If I were to bet one way or another, he stays. Then again, anything can happen.
Because I’m trying to be thoughtful in how I regurgitate rumor and speculation. A lot of posters here believe he’s a lock because he didn’t participate in senior night. I’m hearing that’s not necessarily a sure thing.

Indeed, nothing is a lock. Nothing. Becker, etc.. We'll see what happens. But I'll say this: I think AD is ready to take another leap. If he stays, next year's team will his and Matt's.

I'm a fan of Deloney. His shot-making is a weapon. I do think he'd have an opportunity to be a starter or have increased minutes next year, but his size makes it tough to play for long stretches defensively. I think they list him at 6'0" but he's probably in reality at most 5'10". If I had to describe him, he's a more explosive/bit more dynamic Joey Accaoui for those that remember him.

But, also wouldn't begrudge him if decided to do something else. He's from Pacific NW so maybe would want to get closer to home. Who knows.

All I know is I hope he averages 15ppg in the NCAA Tournament and leads us to Elite Eight!

Why stop at the Elite Eight? Ha.

I thought this was an interesting answer (especially the second paragraph) from Becker in his post game...and tracks with what I'd heard last year too.

"
Q. In a lot of ways, the season was unlike a lot of them that you've had here in Vermont, between the rocky starts and picking things up at towards the end, the complete roster overhaul. Now that it's over, what's the biggest thing you feel like you learned going into an offseason where you guys graduate four starters?

COACH BECKER: I mean, this year we were tested more than ever. Like with our culture, with how we do things, and it was put to the test this year. And we're still all about the right stuff. And I'd be remiss if I didn't thank my staff. I mean, I know I'm sitting up here and I get the credit when we win. But those guys are the ones that make me look good that my staff was incredible. I've got a great staff.

We've got a lot of good pieces returning. We've got to go find some new players. And I thought last year, in the portal, we kind of didn't know how that worked, necessarily. Maybe shot for kids too high that weren't going to come here. Like I said, the portal is like speed dating; you've got to identify the right ones, otherwise you're chasing the wrong one and you end up back at square one.

So I think we have a better understanding about that and who might be attracted to us. We're not as pretty as we thought, I guess."

A link to the interview quoted above:

The part at 6:11 with Becker talking about the Duncan trio legacy was amazing - a must watch. Hard to imagine him not sticking around. It seems we get just as much from him being a great coach as he's gotten from these players - truly a mutually beneficial relationship. Vermont is a special place to coach and I can't imagine him giving this up. I feel like he was made to coach at UVM.

As we continue to put the final punctuation on this season, a nice behind-the-scenes piece in The Athletic about the lead-up and aftermath of the Marquette game...

Of all the bigger themes, a little interesting nugget about their trip to Columbus: I noticed from photos on social media that they practiced that first day at Ohio State's student rec center. Turns out it was because their planned practice venue got double-booked and they had to change on the fly. A lot of moving parts on these trips that most people don't see or think about.

Can anyone provide a summary (or full access?) to that piece in The Athletic? I don’t have a subscription.
