New season starts today! Here's a look at where the roster stands at the dawn of the off-season...

10 Scholarships Used - 3 Scholarships Available

1 YEAR REMAINING
-Aaron Deloney
-Matt Veretto

2 YEARS REMAINING
-Ileri Ayo-Faleye
-Nick Fiorillo

3 YEARS REMAINING
-Sam Alamutu
-TJ Hurley
-Jorge Ochoa
-Perry Smith
-Michel Ndayishimiye (Walk-On)

4 YEARS REMAINING

Obviously all eyes are on the portal (both coming and going, I suppose), but I still have a feeling we might not be done in the 2023 class.

They'll contend for an 8th straight regular season conference title, 3rd straight conference tournament title and will contend to be back in the ncaa tournament once again next year and win 20 plus games once again next year.

Along with Alumutu, who will surprise, I for one am exited about what Ayo-Faleye will bring next season. He made great strides this year. Lets get number #8.
Agree with you on Alamutu and Ayo-Faleye.
Beagle is in Portal as well as Drumgoole. Believe we recruited Drumoole. Is there a chance? Beagle will probably go higher but we recruited him also and I made an earlier post about not understanding why he didn't choose UVM. Probably goes higher and we are loaded with bigs now but one can dream about either of these two.

One of the hallmarks over the last five years has been guards with good size who play physically, defend, and rebound. Shungu, Duncan, Mazzulla, Sullivan, etc. I think it’s a pretty critical element of how the team has succeeded. You could argue that it might be less important next year with the number of bigs on the roster, but I think it’s a major factor in our perimeter defense regardless of who else is on the floor.

Alamutu fits that bill, so let’s hope he‘s ready and able to step into that role. I’m fairly optimistic on that, presuming he’s still here, which these days is never 100%.

This team needs proven post play. We have bigs on the roster, but none of them are theats in the low post. They need to hit the portal and find at least one more big. They also need a 3 pt shooting wing and a veteran pg. They lose all of their interior players and most of the ball handling with the graduation of Penn, Duncan and Sullivan.

Ditto. I said pretty much the same thing in the recruiting thread. Post defender and rebounder is a need. Outside of Ayo-Faleye, current bigs offer a different set of skills.

Two players that I'm really excited to see next year (if they decide to stay) are Alamutu and Ochoa. Alamutu reminds me of Shungu in many ways - strong, athletic, great defender but still a work in progress offensively. If he can develop a fairly consistent shot I think he has a chance at starting next year or at the very least be a part of the rotation throughout the year. Ochoa got very little playing time this year so I don't expect him to make any major leaps but he did show flashes of potential in his limited stints. Looks comfortable on offense and could provide a nice spark off the bench next year in a wing/forward esque role.

While I hope all of the underclassmen stick with the program for at least another year, PSJ appears to be the most likely of the bunch to transfer out. Veretto, Fiorillo and Ayo-Faleye are all slated to be ahead of him and when you add in Ochoa and Joba (plus another transfer or freshman) it might be too much of an uphill battle for him to get consistent minutes next year. With that being said however, I have no inside information to base this off and PSJ's father has been very supportive of the future of UVM so he might decide to run it back for another year.

Becker indicated (about a month ago?) that he anticipates Fiorillo is not likely to go two more years…that next year should be his last.

That wouldn't surprise me. He'd have been in college like 5 years by then. But as a matter of record, he does have two years of eligibility, wherever and however he does or does not use it.

Moving the transfer portal discussion over from the 2022-23 thread, and updating the "heard from" list...

Rice, Bucknell
Wojcik, Brown
Meadows, Portland
Selden, Gardner-Webb
Benson, Army
Anglin, Georgetown
Beauchamp, Evansville
Powell, Buffalo

And a new one...

Jalen Benjamin, Mount St. Mary's (1 to play): Jalen Benjamin - 2022-23 - Men's Basketball - Mount St. Mary's University

I’m sure they already are scouring the portal.

Lot of speculation about Smith, but based on body language and bench demeanor, he seems happy and looks like a good teammate, so we’ll see. I think the coaching staff and players openly communicate, so a lot may depend on what they are telling him about where he sits in the rotation, and needs to work on.

Alamutu, TBD. He’s athletic, but does he have basketball skills?

I think going forward our front line looks good for AE squad. Beagle would be a dream to get in the portal, but guards are where they will look.
Verretto, Fiorillo, Ayo-Faleyo, Smith, Ochoa, Jackson, and Joba will give us good size. Smith, Ochoa, and Jackson should improve with a summer to work on strength and game. Intrigued to see Jackson play after redshirt year.
Looks like athletic small forward.
Guards need a good 2-year transfer to run the point. Keep Deloney free to use his game as the off guard. Hurley will
bring more. I think he ran into that H.S. to College wall. 20-25 games in H.S over 3-31/2 months. College 30-35 over 3 months.
It will be interesting to see whom they target.

Bigger question, will Becker get an offer.
