You might be thinking of Jason Green.

A big red flag to me was when Ryan Schneider and Josh Duell left. They stayed after Brennan
left and then bailed after one year with Lonergan.
Yes, Duell and Ryan. Of course. They might not have liked Lonergan but Jesse was doing everything in his power to make them not like him, or so the story goes. Duell walked on at Siena. If it was only six players - and two of them were not his players - it could've been way worse.

In the pre-portal era, when a coach saw actual contributors leave his roster, there was a pretty simple common denominator. Have to remember back then, some guys stayed because transferring was a hell of a lot harder than it is now, and it was less of a sure thing that another school would have a spot for you.

Jesse being a bitter dick didn't help, but neither did ridiculing a player and calling him a fat ass every day, or completely shattering the confidence of a guy who was good enough to play at UVM by telling him how much he sucked. Some chose to leave, and others stayed around and took the abuse. Even if it's relatively recent history, the mid-2000s and early 2010s truly are a lifetime ago when it comes to how coaches acted and what players were told to accept. Things have broadly changed for the better.

This conversation went off the rails being in a recruiting thread.... It's supposed to be about the class of 2023 not 2003
Oh look! It's the message board police, cute!

Seriously, conversations evolve, what are we supposed to do, start a whole new thread every time a conversation evolves to something slightly off topic?

Really, who cares???

Not being message board police. Just annoyed at seeing a new message in a thread about recruits only to check it and see pages of debates over UVM history. I don't care what you post or where you do it, but have some common sense and try to keep threads at least remotely on topic. The value this board brings to fans is greatly diminished by BS arguments being had in the wrong place. Ask yourself, is the debate I just had remotely on topic? No? Then post "hey, let's move this conversation to the appropriate thread so people can use this one to get info and have conversations about recruits and their prospects to help their new or potential new teams"

Or don't, you could just carry on being an annoying loser thinking the world revolves around you. Suit yourself.

Here's an idea. Let's create three new sticky thread at the top of the board and just delete everything else. The first will be "Debate which recruits were most influential in bringing UVM to it's current status of class of the league along with thoughts on past coach performances and their impact on today" the second sticky thread could be the UVM catch all thread for all other rapist related discussion, and the last (which would have by far the least amount of views and posts) would be a catch all thread for every other topic for every other team in the league.

In the 13 years I've participated in this forum, It's extremely rare for anyone ask to move a conversation to a more appropriate thread. Sure, there are lots of off topic conversations and sometimes people even comment on them. I get that it can be annoying to read through UVM's history (especially as an Albany fan). Perhaps instead of being a message board Karen, you could just scroll through the off topic stuff or make a comment to bring us back ON TOPIC...either way, your characterization of me being an annoying loser is really going to make me lose sleep tonight. :ROFLMAO:

I understand it is hard being a ualbany fan right now but I didn't know it was this hard.

In the class of 2023, Bryant's freshman Aaron Davis, 6'6," should be a force from the get-go.

He's terrific scorer and has a very good overall game. As he scored 59-points in a HS game, including scoring a whopping 36-points by making 12-three's in the first 12 minutes of the game. Simply unheard of. Overall, shot 77 percent (17-22) on three's.

Binghamton commit Evan Ashe having a nice season for Winchendon. Playing in the NEPSAC, he's seeing some good competition, and he's regularly scoring 20+. Might be a guy who can contribute early on, especially with Falko and Gibson exhausting their eligibility creating a need for offense.

Winchendon streams a lot of their games so I've gotten to see him a bit. Seems like a really athletic kid, capable of knocking down threes too. I'd think he's a candidate to operate in that two-man game Falko has flourished in the last two seasons.

As I'm sure we're all aware, playoff basketball is here, which means some teams are now done for the season. But great news! That means that players all over the country are jumping into the Transfer Portal!! Very curious to see which players from AE teams transfer out, along with what talent we're able to bring in - good luck to all programs on holding on to those key pieces, and filling out rosters with impact platers!

Sanders should be looking at one of his current commits' teammates at Winchendon, Belal El Shakery. Kid is 6'8", doesn't have a VC page and was only just recently made his first offer (by NJIT). Watching the Winchendon game right now and he's got some game. Drilled a three, posterized some poor kid, has put it on the floor confidently. Binghamton has plenty of open scholarships, wouldn't mind seeing them offer a big man.
El Shakery committed to NJIT. Don't think he ended up getting any other offers. He needs some work, sure, but having watched a few Winchendon games, he has a decent foundation for a 6'8" kid. Will be interesting to see how he develops at this level.

I was eavesdropping on Josh Duell’s father in the lobby one game, and he was saying you can only be called a fat f*** so many times. No surprise he left after the season. So many bad stories about Lonergan, but he maintained the winning program after Coppenrath. Usually programs like UVM get their once-in-a-lifetime player and revert back to mediocrity. And Becker is over the top, easily the best coach in program history.

Only 23 players in the portal so far. I feel like that is a low number considering how many teams already have their seasons over. I know that the bulk will start hitting after Selection Sunday, and then after the tournament is over, but I feel like there were more this time last year. Maybe it slows a little this season? I doubt it, but players with extra COVID eligibility are starting to graduate and things should be settling out....

Here is the best site I have seen to track it:

Most interesting names for the AE so far IMHO:

  • BJ Mack - Wofford - 6'8" Forward - Averaged 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. Probably looking to play a year at a high major, but I could also see him looking to dominate for a year and would be a great target.
  • Idan Tretout - Harvard - 6'4" Guard - Averaged 9.7ppg in about 23 minutes per game. Ivy doesn't have grad students, so he needs to transfer to keep playing. Being from NYC, I could see him ending in the AE.
  • Anthony Seldon - Gardner Webb - 6'6" Wing - 11.5ppg in the Big South. Comes from Boston, and his numbers don't look High Majoresque. Northeast roots and a history of success equals recruiting target for our league.
  • Chris Ledlum - Harvard - 6'6" Forward - Another NYC kid graduating from Harvard. His stats are big for the Ivy with 18.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 Steals, and 1.1 blocks per game.
  • Josh Cohen - St. Francis (PA) - 6'10" Forward - Would probably be my #1 target at the moment as a grad transfer. Averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds a game, and should still have 2 years of eligibility left (Redshirt year plus COVID bonus year). With his size, he might try his hand at a higher level if he can get recruited, but the thought of him coming to UA to pair with Beagle at the 4 and Neely at 3 seems like it would almost instantly bring UA back to relevance. Either way, he is from NJ, so I'd think a Northeast area school would have a great shot.
  • Messiah Jones - Wofford - 6'6" Forward - another grad student with decent stats in college (9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds). Unlike his teammate BJ above, I think him getting a chance to play a lot at a mid-major will trump coming off the bench at a major school for his final year, but kids all have their dreams. He is from Chicago, so I am sure a school in the mid-west will have an advantage, but he would be a good add for any team in the AE for senior leadership.
There are a few others, like Brayon Freeman, but he has already played at 2 schools in 2 years. If he were to come to the AE, my bet would be Bryant. Could be a better kid than that, but red flags go up with lots of stops that Bryant seems to ignore or even chase.

There's my quick take on the portal. Looking forward to seeing this off-season start to really get interesting with the portal!

Ledlum will be able to play at a big-time school/anywhere in the country. Just look at the schools that are already reaching out to Dame Adelekun from Dartmouth.....Arkansas, Clemson, Ohio State, NC State, Maryland, Vanderbilt, etc

Anthony Selden is Wayne Selden's younger brother.

NM- Ledlum already hearing from Kentucky, UCLA, Ohio State, Indiana, Florida, LSU etc ex etc. He's going to end up somewhere like Duke or Kentucky

Two guards added that would be interesting pick ups for teams that need guards:

Nick Timberlake-Towson- 6'4 guard- Averaged 17.7 ppg, 3.9 rbs, 2.4 ast, 41.6% 3pt.
-Probably looking for an up transfer, but I recall UVM tried to recruit him out of HS.

Paxson Wojcik- Brown- 6'5 guard- Averaged 14.9 ppg, 7.2 rbs, 3.2 ast, 38% 3pt.
-Again may be looking for a bigger pond but checks all the boxes at this level.

Both strong players that would make impact in AE.

Timberlake's dad Jeff played at BU for Mike Jarvis and know he's in their HOF
