I believe Wright-McLeish is returning. He was not honored on Senior Night.
Can't speak to the other teams, but right now Albany looks like this:I did this last year mostly because I needed it to keep track of who the heck has a full roster or not...hopefully it was beneficial to others?
Here we go:
Albany: 11-12 (?) scholarships filled, 1-2 scholarships remaining....I'm working on the assumption Marcus Jackson is getting a scholarship, and that Trey Hutchinson is likely not coming back (but he might?). I'm accounting for Beagle withdrawing from the portal as well.
Please let me know where there are any mess ups.
That’s a lot of guards.UMBC Roster as of 4/14:
Scholarships available: 5
Seniors
Tre Edwards? (Assumed transfer or retirement, but no update as of yet)
Juniors
Devan Sapp
Bryce Johnson (transfer from Chicago State)
Sophomores
Dion Brown
Regimantas Ciunys
Freshman
Ace Valentine
Clifton Efinda
Marcel Gardner
UMBC desperately needs to improve itself in the portal.
Sapp, Efinda and Gardner definitely won't cut it in the frontcourt. One of my favorite DII, frontcourt portal players just committed to Green Bay which is frustrating; that program is a disaster. That’s a lot of guards.
He's from Wisconsin, so he must have wanted to play closer to home.Sapp, Efinda and Gardner definitely won't cut it in the frontcourt. One of my favorite DII, frontcourt portal players just committed to Green Bay which is frustrating; that program is a disaster.
Albany Update... with the Marshall addition:Can't speak to the other teams, but right now Albany looks like this:
Assuming Jackson gets a scholarship and returns, that leaves 3 open Scholarships for next season.
- Definitely Returning - 5: Beagle (woohoo), Neely, Reddish, Little, Amica
- Likely Returning / Likely New Scholarship- 1: Marcus Jackson, was a walk-on last year, no word on if he got a scholarship
- Incoming Freshman - 3: Robinson, Margoupis, Adnan
- Incoming Transfers - 1: Bertram, Marshall
In my mind it's like this:
- Potentially Returning - 2: Hutcheson (graduation, no portal announcement) and Ketner (joined the football team)
- 1 definite opening, 2 potential openings, and a 4th that may or may not be open depending on if Jackson stays a walk-on
- If both Hutch and Ketner stay on the team with scholarships, then DK needs to use the portal to get a transfer PG that can step in and contribute on day 1. Hutch is an all-effort, blue collar, hard working, fan favorite: but he hasn't been good offensively since his freshman year. Ketner never really made it into the playing group, and I don't see him as much more than a role player with a big body. The team needs someone who can help the team as a floor general since it is a crapshoot what the team might get from Little/Amica at the point after so many injuries.
- If either or both leave (or they end with 2 or more openings) then DK can try to get another talented Freshman prospect. I'd love to see a kid like Nigle Cook who was recently offered in addition to focusing on the transfer portal.
Uhhhhh…..Who asked?A roster is a list of individuals or items, typically in a specific order or sequence. In the context of sports, a roster is often used to list the names of players on a team. This allows coaches, players, and fans to keep track of who is playing in a particular game or competition. On the other hand, a scholarship is a financial aid that is given to students who have demonstrated academic paints excellence, leadership, and other notable achievements. Scholarships can help offset the cost of tuition and other expenses, making it easier for students to pursue their educational goals. Together, rosters and scholarships play important roles in different areas of life, whether it be in sports or academia. They provide structure and support to individuals and teams, helping them to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

"Ever since Dan stepped on campus he has been nothing but excellence," head coach Levell Sanders said. "He has always led by example and now he is using his voice. Nothing surprises me about Dan and all of his accomplishments. I really look forward to his continued growth as a student-athlete here!"
Petcash started 25 games this season, averaged 32 minutes and helped the Bearcats achieve their highest America East finish in 14 years. The team also made its second-straight appearance in the America East semifinals. He averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in conference play, led the entire America East in 3-point shooting (47%) and was sixth in overall field goal percentage (51%). He had 14 double-digit scoring games and five games with 20 or more points. Petcash is a career 40% 3-point shooter - the highest percentage in program history.
He will return for his final collegiate season in 2023-24.
4 scholarships Left for Bing,Updated to add Tymu Chenery.
No disagreement on the team needing a point guard and another big. Though I do think the role of a traditional point guard is less integral than it used to be depending on the way a coach wants his team to play. Sanders seems comfortable going with “position-less” basketball. I don’t think of Falko as a traditional point guard, but he fit the sort of two-man game Sanders likes running, thus sort of by default took on ball handling duties.4 scholarships Left for Bing,
What I would like to see
Starting PG, It would be great if we got Torrence, believe he would definitely make up the loss of Falko..right now the choices are Stewart and incoming Freshman listed as SGs
Another big, right now we have Balogun and White...We can definitely need an upgrade there, or at least someone to compete with them
Matai Baptiste, we offered him late would be a huge get
Darin Sarin... visited Wyoming recently, doubt we still have a chance but would be another PG option... but the last scholarship should be used for the best available option or not used at all
Lastly I would of liked Brett Rumpel who's transferring from St. Bonaventure to come home to Bing, but he got charged with assault in a road rage incident a couple of weeks ago..so with Bing he is no longer an option
