As a fan, Brooklyn has been by far the best place to have the tournament. I went to Pittsburgh and DC, and they just weren’t as much fun. I get the argument of the empty venue; but, I also agree that it doesn’t show up in tv as much as you’d assume. Playing in home gyms or smaller arenas also has a lower-level connotation to it, too.

Securing the Barclays in 2013, along with the new members definitely put a lot of positive attention on the league. It hasn’t been maintained, but, if don’t think sizing down in venues is a good optic, either.

Also, say no the Green City arena outside of Richmond. It will be in a suburb about 20 minutes away from downtown. It will be great distance for 5 or so teams, but it will be a place you’re spending an extra $50 a day and 45-60 minutes on travel.

The seeding is bad for sure. But, one thing I like is that 3 of the 4 8/9 matchups are middling P5 teams. That's almost a guarantee that none will make out of the first weekend. The thing I'm most disappointed in is the seeding of the 11s and 12s. If VCU lost yesterday, I thought they still had a legitimate shot at making it in. But after winning and still getting a 12 seed, as the 50th overall seed, is just ridiculous. Meanwhile, NC St., Pitt, and Arizona St. both get 11s. If you swap out those seeds in each region, they make much more compelling matchups.

I think there is a real flaw in the NCAA bracket setup right now that got exposed in this tournament, but isn't being talked about. If you look at the four 12 seeds, including VCU, all of them deserved to be an 11 or 10 seed. However, since the play-in game is fixed at the 11 seed, the lowest seed an at-large can be is an 11. This means that 22 out of the 32 automatic qualifiers need to be seeded 12-16, and only 10 automatic qualifiers can be seed 1-11. If you look at the top ten seeded automatic qualifiers, the lowest two are Memphis (8) and FAU (9) which they deserve. This means the best VCU, Charleston, Drake, and Oral Roberts could be seeded is 12. The play-in game seeding should be fluid and be a 12 or 13 seed if needed. There is a lot more parity in college basketball now then 5-10 years ago. Just another way the BIG5 always benefit.
This is a great point. I was trying to remember if they ever had the last four in play-in games as 12 seeds. I thought it had been both 11 and 12 in previous years. But, regardless, it should be a fluid situation because there's no way those 11 seeds were that high up the list.
