Wow AD really milked that last year of his max contract, the only one who played less for more was Tim Thomas.
http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story/?ID=159796&hubname==The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have waived centre Antonio Davis.
"After receiving a second opinion on Antonio's lingering back problems, it is very unlikely that he would return to competitive action this season with the Raptors," said Bryan Colangelo, president and general manager of the Raptors.
"After lengthy discussions with Antonio regarding his physical condition and his general sense of disappointment over his personally difficult year, we have concluded that it's in the best interest of both the organization and Antonio Davis to simply release him at this late point of the season."
Davis had missed the past 12 games after suffering a back injury in the third quarter February 27 in Miami. He was acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks and appeared in eight games with Toronto averaging 4.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23.9 minutes. Davis, who had previously played with the Raptors from 1999-2004, is the franchise’s all-time leading rebounder with 2,839.
I wonder if he would consider signing with us to provide locker room presence.Mikedc said:Bummer. At least he gets to hang out with the kids for the rest of the year I guess. And get paid.
I'd gather the prospects for next year aren't too great, given his age and back issues, but having him around as the 15th guy wouldn't be bad.
Hell, just having him around to yell at guys this year wouldn't be bad, even if he's not gonna play.

Fifteenth guy? No way. He'd be somewhere between 9 and 11 for us. Given the offseason and in limited use (15-20 mpg) I'd take him over Sweetney, Songaila, Allen and Harrington. In fact, I'd bet the back problems are of the phantom variety. In Chicago he knew we had a chance. He had to have known that his efforts would mean nothing in New York and Toronto. Give me, O'Bryant, Roy/Carney/Brewer/S. Williams, Davis and the best big we can sign. I bet we could get AD back for 6 million over 3 years. If we let him have a light preseason and then give him the night off when we're playing bad teams (maybe 1 night off for every 6 games) and then don't play him two much, I'd bet on two maybe THREE more decent years from AD. Remember that in Chicago we didn't ask him to do too much.Mikedc said:Bummer. At least he gets to hang out with the kids for the rest of the year I guess. And get paid.

What are you talking about? With Kendra's penchant for assault maybe she could be that big two guard we are looking for lol. I say Kendra can come too.mizenkay said:or maybe he could, ya know, just stop by seeing how he's going to be in the area anyway.
haha.
just leave kendra at home.
Yeah, well apparently, neither will the Bulls.Rhyder said:He could join the team but wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs.
No matter, nothing says playoff festivities like a Welcome Back Cotter movie day with AD and the team once he comes back.Darius Miles Davis said:Yeah, well apparently, neither will the Bulls.
Yegads that's unacceptable. Double entendre's, clever may it be... this crosses the line for vulgarity. I know we don't mod on this as much as we should, but this is not kosher. Sorry.Pippenatorade said:I say Kendra can come too.
I agree with havign AD on the Bull in some capacity next season. Was hoping he'd be able to play. I do think, though, that we should give the guy the rest of this season off and approach him over the summer.Pippenatorade said:Fifteenth guy? No way. He'd be somewhere between 9 and 11 for us. I know people are ready to write him off because of his age, but Kevin Willis played till he was how old? And AD has always been in better shape than Kevin. I guarantee you we'd see the Tyson of last year with AD around.
And if he's done playing we should bring him in as a coach!

"Thorn said he and his staff haven't had any deep discussions about Antonio Davis, who was waived by Toronto. But he added they might consider picking up the 37-year-old vet -- back problem and all -- after he clears waivers; and that Tractor Traylor remains an option in the offseason."
