Two things:

(1) Nice win by Maine today. Congrats.

(2) What happened to the Bryant fans that showed up here puffing their chests before AE play began? So much for the quick jump to the A-10 (as if....).

Two big games for Binghamton this week kick off a pretty brutal four game stretch. Part of why I thought this afternoon's game was a must win was that having to face Vermont, Bryant, UNH and UMBC in the next four could easily result in a 1-3 or even 0-4 stretch.

Hopefully with Binghamton being an older group they'll be able to shake it off and get focused on Vermont.
This week's matchups:

UML: @Maine, @UNH
UVM: @Binghamton, vs.UMBC
UMBC: @NJIT, @UVM
Bryant: BYE, @Binghamton
Binghamton: vs.Vermont, vs.Bryant
UNH: vs.Albany, vs.UNH
The initial reason I hopped on their bandwagon at the start is that I liked their roster on a matchup basis relative to Bryant.
This is a smart take, especially when you consider how many of those sleepy-eyed 11AM AE championship games are defensive-minded rock fights. Advantage, Lowell.

UML looks like the class of AE. Hard to see how they lost 2 already
UML are a good team but certainly not the "class" of the AE. Let's wait at least until half the season is played. UVM played without Hurley or Sullivan, when they lost to UML. At full strength, UVM is definitely part of the"class" discussion.
57 points in the first half? It's almost like playing a DIII squad
I should have known better. Abuse another team in the league right before your team's game starts --> your team gets smoked.

The Hubris Gods have spoken.

…and Fiorillo.

I'm not sure anyone actually said that? A few of us already here said we were excited because Bryant could challenge Vermont and their entire vibe is pretty antithetical to UVM's.

Here's what I'm buying: at this point of the season, Bryant has proven themselves to be, not that great. With the roster that they have, they should absolutely be one of the best teams in the league, but until they decide to play some defense, I think that they're a mid-pack team.

Excess Hubris, like the Wu Tang Clan, is nothing to F with.

Agreed. I think Bryant has a defense problem, one that I don't think is unique to this year's team. Many of us, myself included, looked at their roster and figured they'd be able to mask it offensively. To date, the results have been inconsistent to put it politely.
Bryant really thus far is....just not that good.

Individual portal kids not really matching their hype, they are not good defensively, generally have poor shot selection (you want to take 25 ft catch and shoot 3s early in the shot clock after one pass from the PG like 3-4 trips in a row? Go ahead), and seem to have the least amount of depth in the conference.

I see them quite a ways behind both UML & UVM right now. Maybe they improve in Feb-will see
Not sure what to make of Binghamton r n. 4-2 but just lost by 20+ to Maine and needed OT to beat NJIT, but crushed NH by 18 and beat UML by 1.

Bizarro. But, that being said if they beat UVM this week and move to 5-2 they have to be considered solidly for real.

This is the craziest season for the AE in a long time. Kinda fun.

Not only that, the 2 (?) actual Bryant fans that showed up on here seemed reasonable and nice. It's too bad they don't post more. It's too bad there aren't fans of other teams anymore. Shout out to the cool group of UMBC fans who are the only ones around it seems. For as much as people proclaim they welcome all types, I can see it being a real challenge if you're not a UVM fan to be on here with any regularity...especially in Bryant's case when a lot of people (majority UVM fans) here were very hellbent on making Bryant out to be spawns of the devil.

As for Bryant's play, I too thought they'd just mask their bad defense with good enough offense. I still think they can be get into the top 4 by season's end because I think they can scrounge enough wins against those below the Lowell/UVM/UMBC threshold. Right now, they just have to end up better than Binghamton and UNH, which is doable. Binghamton's contender/pretender status rides on this upcoming 4 game stretch of theirs.

I always like posts from non-UVM fans: UMBC, Maine, Bing and Albany are usually at least fairly represented well here. Maybe there are fewer NJIT, UML and Bryant posts b-c they are newer to AE.
I can't (and obviously don't) speak for all the Lowell fans, but there does seem to be some excitement building. Apparently yesterday was a sell-out at Costello. I had mentioned a couple of games prior that the team plays to their competition. That honestly makes it tough to be excited right now, unfortunately, even with them already setting up a DI win record this year.

So do the Boston Celtics. ;-)
