It is quite obvious that we did this whole trade in order to free cap space for either another big trade or signing a free agent.

Now I think this guarntees us Keon Clarke...but I also think that we might try to get someone else.

Any suggestions?

I think that if we can manage to dump Hunter, grabbing Tim Hardaway would be sweet!

Of course my dream would be trading JYD, Montross, and Yogi for Nash but dreams don't often come true :))

i'm not quite sure what the raptors are going to do. i was listening to the fan 590 and Glen Grunwald seemed pretty happy with what they just did. he said "we would've been a much better team with rush, but we gave him up and solved all our needs for the offseason, by acquiring versatile guard in Lindsay Hunter and a good forward in Jeffries....that leaves us with some space to sign another player.....

Let's look at the money we saved from this trade:

TOTAL ESTIMATED SALARY NEXT YEAR NOT INCLUDING TRADE: $55,357,000

Lose:
Tracy Murray, $3,740,000

Gain:
Lindsey Hunter, $3,000,000

Plus we save a few hundred thousand from the difference between the 20 and 27 picks.

TOTAL ESTIMATED SALARY NEXT YEAR INCLUDING TRADE: 54,617,000

We will still have to pay the luxury tax!!! This trade doens't give us any flexibility to sign Keon AT ALL!!!!!!!

Why don't the Raptors want Childs anyway? As far as I can remember...he was a good backup PG for them. Why did they just trade for Lindsey Hunter?

because they are not planning to sign dell curry nor Chris Childs because they are trying to save money to sign Keon. I heard Childs wanted the mid level exception at 4.5 mil...and gg said no...and dell said he would sign for vets min but gg said no as well...

they dont want childs because they got the cap relief they wanted from his contract and there is no need to sign him now

Cap relief? WE DID NOT GET ANY CAP RELIEF!!!

Remember, Vince's MAX CONTRACT kicks in this year. He's making $10 million, so even though we have Childs and Curry off the books, our payroll still goes up because Childs made approx. $5 mil, and Curry made $2.1 mil last season.

The only way we can re-sign Keon is for the mid-level exception, and even if we don't sign him, we'll still have to pay the tax.

The Raptors wont re-sign Clark I was sure about it before but they have put themselve in a hole be signing.
JYD, Alvin, Antonio for way to much.

This team wont go further untill they trade 2 of those 3 because of their ridiculous contracts give us no room to do anything.

Not to mention Hakeem, Yogi, Montross.

Clark has said he wants to play in a warm weather climate yesterday on 590 and the Knicks, Orlando, Chicago both LA and Millwaukee are interested in his services.

It's not looking good right now for us to keep Keon and I say we dont

Davis
JYD
Peterson
Carter
Alvin

Is not a bad lineup. Not East contenders but playoff contenders no question.

For the best of the Raptors I hope they Trade AD and Alvin to rebuild for 1 year then go at it again. I know that sounds insane

Sime every deal has it's good and it's bad no matter how much talent you give up. Weather its done to relieve cap or to better the team. Who is to say the Lindsey Hunter wont excel on the Raptors. Eddie Jones was not known as half the player he is till he got out of LA and went to Charlotte.

Alot of players cant play in places with alot of pressure is around the team. Lindsey could of had a bad year this year just like JYD and Carter did. We cant judge a deal untill it is completly over.

Indiana got rapped when they traded Davis for Bender. Davis proved to be an all star in Toronto and only a 6 man in Indiana. Bender might be 100 times better then AD in the future just like Rush. this trade was made to go to the top of the east now not wait 2 years for a young guy to develop.

Weather Keon stays or leaves this trade cant be evaluated till we see Jeffreis or Rush develop.

oh i agree with you whole-heartedly. im excited about next season. There are so many expectations with Vince Carter and the organization that they just have to play well. I am excited about Jeffries. Everything I've heard about him is good news, and I can't wait to see him on the floor for the Raps.

He would have been a sure lottery pick if it wasn't for his injury. That says something about his talent. And he is a great defender....Adding even more to our perimeter defense...

I HOPE Hunter does good in Toronto. I'm not saying he will but I honestly do hope.

i'm a pacers fan. but i still am an ad fan as well. yeh the bender deal still hasn't paid off yet but i believe this is the year for that to happen. bender put on some muscle last year and it showed in some games last year. he showed he can sink the 3 and drive and throw down on folks like a future superstar. he's a legit 7 footer and the sky's the limit with this guy. i read a post suggesting the trade of ad. i think that would be a terrible trade for you guys. davis is pretty much the heart and soul of the raptors defense and rebounding section. every team needs a guy who isn't afraid to work his butt off and get down and dirty in the middle of the action the way davis does. the way i saw it, when carter went out with his injury it seemed pretty clear that the raptors have been sacrificing the team success for vince's personal glory. when vc went out, davis took on a larger role and toronto started winning, alot. i think that without a hardworking tough guy like antonio, the raptors would be in a load of trouble. vince can get his pretty numbers and fancy spotscenter dunks but guys like davis make a bigger difference.

Good post clownskull but your wrong about one thing.

vince can get his pretty numbers and fancy spotscenter dunks but guys like davis make a bigger difference.

If you watched every Raptor game that was not the case at all.
Once Vince became the superstar he became everyone on the team looked at him at every position to make a play. Instead of trying to create a shot they would pass it to Vince and let him create something ( a scoring play for himself, a fancy pass something) This team did not know how play with each other. They just knew that when they could'nt find a play and the clock was passed 20 to pass it to Vince and let him create.

When Vince went down everyone thought they were in trouble, but they learned how to rely on each other rather then everyone relying on Vince. The team started to gain confidence in each other and un-expected leaders finally started to show up ( AD, Keon and MOP). Anyone who think's this team is better without Vince is ridiculous. When Vince went down when the Raps were 8 games under 500 there was no pressure to do anything but to go down the standings, but they dident and ended up making the 7th spot to face Detroit. It was then when they realized how much of a difference Carter made. Detroit had no double teams because of no Carter the Raps couldent make their own shots and they ended up losing. Anyone who thinks that with Cater Toronto would have still went down to Detroit is a very biased Detroit fan IMO.
