In a news release from El Nuevo Día, the Detroit Pistons' guard Carlos Arroyo stated that he will not be available to play for Puerto Rico at the Las Americas Tourney being held this summer in the Dominican Republic.

The tourney, where five teams from the hemisphere will qualify for the World Championships in Japan (2006), will be held from August 24 to September 4. His first son is expected to be born during that time, and he wants to be in Miami (where his residence is) with his wife and family.

"Puerto Rico doesn't need me to qualify for the Worlds. The first five teams are in, anyway. I think we have other kids that are moving up and can play the point, like Christian Dalmau, Bobby Joe Hatton, José Juan (Barea) and Filiberto Rivera. Besides, I need a break."
