"It's a fact -- as a child he could not have seen a Soviet tank in Styria," the southeastern province where Schwarzenegger was born and raised, historian Stefan Karner told the Vienna newspaper Kurier.
In his convention address, Schwarzenegger also said: "As a kid, I saw the Socialist country that Austria became after the Soviets left" in 1955 and Austria regained its independence.

But Martin Polaschek, a law history scholar and vice rector of Graz University, told Kurier that Austria was governed by coalition governments, including the conservative People's Party and the Social Democratic Party. Between 1945 and 1970, all the nation's chancellors were conservatives -- not Socialists.

What's more, when Schwarzenegger left in 1968, Austria was run by a conservative government headed by People's Party Chancellor Josef Klaus, a staunch Roman Catholic and a sharp critic of both the Socialists and the Communists ruling in countries across the Iron Curtain.

Is it just me, or was the "girly man" tagline something from Saturday Night Live that they used to make fun of Arnold? Did he ever actually call someone a girly man? It's funny if he is using catch phrases by comedians who were mocking him.

You nailed it. He first used the catch phrase to talk about democrats in the California government. He repeated his use of the SNL joke at the convention.

So, either he has a good but misguided sense of humour, or he is willing to adopt the image that he is a juicing, womanizing, homophobic, psychopathic, lumbering oaf.

I guess he doesn't need to distance himself from that representation now that he's already in office, though.

For the record, I'm a huge fan of Arnold. Don't know why, always have been. Total Recall, da Tuhmanatah, Tuhmanatah Two, Predator, Hercules in New York, and one of the most underrated movies of all time, Conan the Barbarian. I own 'em all, special edition if available.

Not a big fan of his politics, but he could be a lot worse. And I do like his story, pseudo-fictional or not. He really did make it, which is awesome.

P.S. 99.9% of his body was created without steroids.
