Couldn't help but notice Denver in that poll. Are there many Lax teams in the Midwest or Mountain states? Or do they come back East for most of their games? BTW, Denver is the two time defending National Champions in Men's Ice Hockey, but they didn't qualify this season.

There are only about 60 D-I men's lacrosse teams countrywide, and most of them are in the East and the South. (Thanks to Title IX, I believe there are more than twice as many D-I women's teams.) That said, those numbers are increasing, and the sport is really growing fast out West, from what I understand.

Did a little research and found the Denver Lax schedule:

DU Pioneers Lax Schedule

Other than Air Force, their opponents are from East of the Mississippi. They play Bellarmine (Louisville, KY), Butler, Notre Dame and Ohio State, but most of their games are with schools on our coast. AE schools Stony Brook and UMBC are on their slate. I guess they're pretty committed to Lax with those travel expenses!!

Wow, I learned something tonight! I had never heard of Bellarmine University and sure didn't know that they played D-I Lax! And they are another BU!! And they play Binghamton in Lax this season. Looks like they are D-II in their other sports.

I had heard of many of the other lower level schools playing D-I ice hockey (Union, Clarkson, RPI, St. Lawrence, etc.), lacrosse (Johns Hopkins, Hobart) and soccer (Hartwick), but I hadn't heard of Bellarmine in Lax.

Well, the afore-mentioned Bellarmine upset Binghamton yesterday, so unless Bing can return the favor and upset Princeton tomorrow, I suspect the Bearcats will drop out of the top 20 next week. Bellarmine was ranked in the high 30s coming into the game, so I have a feeling Binghamton probably got ahead of themselves and were thinking too much about the Princeton game.

Lax is for kids that couldn't hit a baseball and Abercrombie and Fitch marketing :) .

Just kidding, a lot of my buddies played Lax- but you ever get a Lax kid to play a pick-up game in another sport...AWFUL!!!!
