SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Carlos Boozer is staying with the Utah Jazz.

Boozer told the Jazz on Tuesday that he would return to the team instead of opting out of the final year of his contract and becoming a free agent.

He is scheduled to make $12.7 million next season, his sixth with the Jazz.

Tuesday was the deadline for players to exercise contract options. The Jazz were still waiting for a decision from center Mehmet Okur, who also has one year remaining on his contract.

So much for that...

this is a bad year to opt out. it's better to collect 12 mils and hope the economy improves next year than to opt out and get something just over the MLE. 12 million could be worth two years of his salary if he opted out this summer.

Smart move on his part. With all the teams clearing out space for the Bron sweepstakes, there's a good chance at least one team will be left with a lot of money to spend next summer.
