Here is why...

Like Krause did Tyson for Brand

West did

Pau Gasol Selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round (third pick overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft....Draft rights traded with Lorenzen Wright and Brevin Knight by the Hawks to the Memphis Grizzlies for Shareef Abdur-Rahim on 7/19/01.

Do you think Memphis was upset like the Bulls were??

Actually, Jerry West wasn't even Memphis' GM then. His first draft was the year after when he took Gooden.

can't find the west related info, but here's all the wonderful misquotations of the infamous line...

http://www.chicagomag.com/pressbox/041703pressbox.htm

April 8, 2003: Sam Smith, of the Tribune: “[H]e tried to say everyone in the organization matters, and it came out ‘Organizations win championships,’ not players. He never said it. Betrayed again by being inarticulate. But who cared.”

West and Krause have both been quoted (or mis-quoted, depending on your bais) as saying that organizations win championships.

an old archived aldridge article. mentions some of the parallels of the jerry gm's

He shared Krause's philosophy about coaches -- that, while important, coaches were just part of an organization's success, and certainly weren't worth the increasing salaries they were receiving. And West was just as arrogant about the Lakers as Krause was about the Bulls. West couldn't believe when a free agent didn't want to play in Los Angeles for less than what he could get elsewhere.
