Summary:

When asked about CV, how did he see him, starter or ideal 6th man?

- CV unless he is beaten out by a Free Agent or trade acquisition, he deserves a starter role. Spoke of building around the two long, versatile players.

- Likes Mo Pete a lot. Recognised his abilities on D, having to guard the best wing every day.

About MJ:

-Wants him back. However he mentioned specifically short term and long term perspectives. While he could pay MJ a great number next year before Bosh's extension kicks in, once an extension does kick in, it no longer makes sense. If Mikes expectations are above BC's threshold he hopes they can come to an agreement that helps both sides. He did not say it but I believe this implies a S & T.

About what this team needs via trade, draft or FA:

-Interior defense, rebounding, weakside shotblocking. (I'll refrain)

When asked if this team needs to get tougher/nastier (not dirty)

- BC responded, absolutely, citing his acquistion of Kurt Thomas allowing Amare to operate more freely, as an example.

Thanks, I missed the early part.

When he mentioned the toughness and spot up shooting that KT brings I couldn't help but think that is exactly what Hoff's game is and Sam won't play him to get the experience he needs to become a KT/Oak type defender. You don't learn that from the bench. Two horrible years that could have seen Hoff gain major experience, but instead we have a young big who has played less than rookie year minutes for his first two years total. Just stupid.

He recognizes our weak perimeter D and the need for a big guy that can protect the paint. They are pretty hard to get though. Atlanta and Chicago need that too and they have money to spend.

well, hoffa did have all of the 2nd half of last yr to prove himself when he started for us and well, we know how that ended up...

im the 1st to critize mitchell as i think hes awful when it comes to the tactical part of coaching, but i think its pretty easy to say from out here that hoffa should be in the game more for his "development" etc, etc.....i mean put yourself in mitchells shoes for a second...his job security cant be exactly be described as stable or secured, so knowing that, you're going to put a guy like hoffa out there, who 80-85% of the time doesnt seem to have a clue out there and is a liability?? i dont know about you, but i sure wouldnt, knowing my a** could very well be on the line...without job security, i wouldnt play hoffa either...

I've heard Hoffa hasn't looked so clueless since coming back from "injury".

the problem with every player in our frontcourt not named Bosh is consistancy.

Pape, Hoffa, Bonner, Woods, all these guys can have a good game from time to time, but none of them can do it on a nightly bases (I guess Matty is the closest).

A lot can be forgiven because of most of their inexperience, but that doesn't make the frontcourt any better.

He gave him some minutes and Hoffa produced. Why not give him a few more? (more than 0 anyway)
Hoffa can only play against the brusing, muscle-bound centers in the league. That's who Sam plays him against, the Marc Jackson's and Aaron Williams of the league, that way Hoffa has a chance to compete. To play him against an athletic center would be cruel, we all know how he fairs against them (two quick fouls and some boo's from the stands).

Since when is Brezec an athletic center?

Bobcats also played Melvin Ely and Jake Voskul. Perfect guys for Hoff to rough it up with.

And to say Hoff has had a bunch of 'bad' games is wrong. His role is just so limited, and his time so limited, its hard to look good. He is much less foul prone than Sow who has the body of a SF. Sow screws up way more than Hoff ever did. How many buckets has Sow cost us just with his stupid offensive and defensive goaltending? Talk about a slow learner.

Hoff has played just over 100 games with the Raps. In that time he should have had between 1500 and 2000 minutes, minimum. He has only played 1200 career minutes thanks to Sam. That is what is holding him back. That is why you can't just write him off. An extra 5mpg for Hoff would not have cost the Raps even 1 win this season. But that time could have helped Hoffa develop.

Look at Chris Wilcox. Clips would never give him consistant minutes. Never. Goes to Seattle and he's putting up huge numbers. You have to play to prove whether you are legit or not.

Kwame is finally getting big minutes in LA. Putting up big numbers. PT = success for most guys at this level.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda, but he can't.

I'm not a Mitchell fan and certainly believe Hoffa should play more, however if you can't learn and help your team win, you're probably on the wrong team.

Either way, Hoffa is not, nor ever will be the exclusive answer for the Raptors center.

Playing Sow and Bonner major minutes at C is not the answer either, yet that is exactly what we are doing. And its not helping us win.

So I have to ask: who would benefit most from those minutes? Two guys that just don't have the body to ever play C in the league. Or a guy who has the size and strength to hold down the position and who put up some great numbers in college as the main guy on his team.

Hoff clears space at both ends. He pisses off opposing bigs every time he plays. He does things that none of our other 'bigs' can do for us. And he doesn't hurt us any more than Sow, Bonner, or Woods do. So why not just play the one guy who is a natural C and see what happens.

We lived with Charlies mistakes and he has improved. He's already played way more minutes than Hoff has in 2 years. Even Graham has more career minutes than Hoff and he is just starting to shine. It takes PT to develop. Give Hoff the same time.
