Clark signs with Sac, Rogers signs NJ...

My bad on the topic... I tried to edit it. I type too fast for my mind to keep up.

The decent FA pool is getting awfully shallow... I hope Krause isn't trying to pull off something spectacular that ends up backfiring on him.

I'd like to see at least one addition this offseason.

http://www.espn.com <--- has both reports of Keon Clark signing today with Sacramento and Rodney Rogers signing with the Nets.

If Rogers played like he did last year, the Nets will be tough to beat. With him, Mutombo, and Martin, they've got a pretty strong frontcourt.

I'm not really sure how Keon Clark fits in on the Kings, on the other hand. He's so skinny I think he's gonna have a hard time against the players out West. Also, who loses money? Divacs, Pollard, Webber?

The Nets now need to use their vets exception on Walt Williams

DickJeff will start at the 3 , Rogers will be their instant offense 6th man and Walt their 3 point specialist - A Train to give defense back up from the bench on the forward line

I was really impressed with how Jason Collins played Shaq at the end of the finals when itwas a done deal . JC really put in and made Shaq work after ToddMac was largely ineffectual

But yeah give the Nets the Wizard to pair with Roger the Dodger and they have a nice nice team

Im with you retro. But there are still some people left we can get. Looks like he will make a move soon.

If NJ gets a Walt Williams they will be tough! I like what they have done in the off season.

Boy, per usual, the rich get richer.

Hopefully, free agents will be drawn to our team soon. Maybe in 2 years.

LOL @ BCH's jab.

I agree that Harpring should be our target #1. I read several posts from Jazz fans over on RealGM that kind of changed my mind about Marshall. I had the impression he was a good defender, but they seemed to disagree (that's an understatement).

I wouldn't mind getting both of them, but the price needs to be fair, and we need to have a plan for dividing up the PT.

Keon Clark looks like a crackhead in that pic. :dead:

Donyell Marshall IMO was a better choice for the Bulls anyway. He rebounds well and shoots a high percentage. He's not as good a defender as alot of people think (MJ lit his *** up badly), but he's about as good as Rose, which isn't that bad.

I normally don't like to beat on other posters, but I'm really getting sick of local_sportsfan spewing out both sides of his mouth. This last post is a case in point.

If I'm reading it correctly, he's saying that Jalen Rose "isn't that bad" a defensive player. Yet in a recent thread he posted this gem:

At this point, about the whole Bulls team is a defensive liability except for maybe Hassell and JWill, who are both adequate defenders. The rest are horrible...especially Rose, Curry, and Crawford.
Which is it, my man?

I was trying to be nice, but since you bring it up, Rose is a horrible defender. Are you happy now?

Actually, Jalen Rose is not a horrible defender as everyone thinks.

Just because he doesn't do awe inspiring things like blocking shots or creating turnovers, he does his job and stays in front of his defender. He also is great at pushing his defender into the double or the defensive walls.

If Jalen had someone like Dale Davis or Rik Smits, you would see more of this like I have since the days he played in Indiana. The one spot he does lack at is when he tried to guard opposing points, as he just isn't fleet of foot. By having Dale and Rik, not to mention Antonio off the bench, he was allowed to play more on the ball D and gamble because of his back line support.

However, at SF, he does a great job of keeping his man in front of him and making him settle for jumpers. When Chandler or Curry finally mature, you'll see Jalen's bad wrap exit stage left because he'll be able to do more things on the defensive end.

Defense is a team initiative, which requires all five players playing in unison. Yes, there are those players who are just extrodinary on the ball defenders, but I'd rather have Jalen's offense and playmaking abilities from the SF rather then defense... that is what our HS kids should be groomed for, patrolling and holding down the paint.

I'll go on record and say that Jalen isn't any worse of a defender then Matt Harpring, the player who everyone was pressing for in FA. Harping had Dikembe patrolling the paint, which allowed him to play more of the ball defense and gamble. He is really going to get eaten alive in Utah, IMO, because Ostertag and Kirelinko aren't too intimidating if you ask me.

What he said

Plus ...

I think why people form the rap they do on him with regard to his defense is because with the young guys frequently in foul trouble ( Fizer , Chandler and Curry ) Jalen has two areas of responsibility that get overlooked

1. He is our principal scoring option and to win consistently or to be in the opportunity for a win we need him on the court for 40 minutes a game and putting up at least 20 points. Fizer and Curry can ultimately lighten the scoring load as they mature, as will Jay , which may change the dynamic of Jalen's role a bit more subtely where greater focus is given on the D.

2. At the end of the game with the game on the line we do not need Jalen on 4 fouls going down the stretch , picking up a tick tack call and mentally messing with his head being on 5 with young inexperienced kids tryiing to win the game

In short, preserving himself and playing his manin man role in the interests of being there at the end for the opportunity of the win gets confused with apathy on D

He may never make all D but Jalen can defend

This may become more evident the sooner the transition of Jay wanting ( and bening capable of ) being the man down the stretch
