WWE.com reports that CM Punk has been forced to have emergency knee surgery. Meanwhile, Prowrestling.net has provided additional details.

Punk met with Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery. There is no timeline set as far as his return date goes. It could mean the end of CM Punk's historic title reign as well as a complete change to the company's plan of Punk vs Rock at the Royal Rumble.

The word is that the knee injury is legitimate and the surgery was described as "long overdue". Punk has been working through the knee injury for some time. It's unknown if the injury was minor or major. It's likely it wouldn't be known until the surgeon looked at the damage in surgery.

Wow. That sure ****s up a lot of WWE's plans if it's serious. If minor, I don't see it ruining their plans to much.

Some serious analysis right here, guys.

Looks like Punk is out of TLC... not going to go into the whole spoiler

So...Ryback as the new champ? Maybe they change it to Dolph/Cena/Ryback for the title?

:whoknows:

I'm not too familiar with their current landscape to throw out many possible scenarios.

I really think Ryback as Champion would lead WWE into a free fall...The guy has nothing can barely put on a match over 5 mins. He got the chanting that is it

Guessing Ziggler is gonna cash in MITB

I was hoping they'd bring back Lesnar sooner than expected to kick Ryback's ass.

I don't know if Ziggler should cash in just yet.

Supposedly they're going to go with Ryback/Team Hell No vs. The Shield now.

He'll be fine. Just need a few weeks off and he'll drop the title to Rock at the rumble. If he needs more time off after that he'll probably do it after Mania.

Unless this entire post is sarcasm, I seriously doubt they would have Punk drop the belt to the Rock of all people, especially given the kind of title reign Punk has had.

I'd rather Punk retain against the Rock. Doubt they'll give it to him since he won't travel to house shows to defend.

Pretty sure Rock's winning the title and dropping it to Cena at Mania.

Raw house shows don't matter. The titles haven't drawn in years and it's been proven that all you need is Cena in the main-event on Raw house shows. If they are that determined to have a title match than make the World champion travel on occasional Raw house shows.

I don't, but I'm pretty sure that's what they want to do. I'd much rather see Brock/Rock.

Punk's gotta drop the title to Rock. Ratings purposes.

I pray to god this doesn't **** up the plans for the Royal Rumble. I won't be nearly as excited if I'm flying down to Phoenix to see ****ing Cena-Rock again.

“CM Punk underwent knee surgery today to remove a piece of torn meniscus that had locked up his knee,” said Andrews’ colleague, WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann. “The surgery, performed by Dr. James Andrews, went smoothly and CM Punk is expected to make a full recovery.”
Average recovery time of removal of a torn meniscus is 4-6 weeks apparently.
