WASHINGTON - The Sixers aren't quite there yet, but if they can squeeze out a few more wins - probably three - they should be in the playoffs.

They were 38-37 after Friday's big win over Cleveland, which moved them into seventh place in the Eastern Conference - at least temporarily.

Essentially, the Sixers are one of three teams - Cleveland and New Jersey are the others - fighting for the final two spots in the East.

However, the Nets defeated Boston on Saturday and were within one game of the Sixers prior to their game at Washington on Saturday night.

The Sixers face the Nets in a huge game next Sunday in New Jersey.

Orlando was in the race for a while but was 3 1/2 games out of the eighth spot entering Saturday's games. And with forward Grant Hill being shut down for the season due to a shin injury, Orlando can pretty much kiss its playoff hopes goodbye.

The other thing that has helped is that Cleveland has been in a freefall. The Cavs, who lost all three meetings to the Sixers this season, were 31-21 and have gone 7-16 since.
The article basically sums up the bottom feeding playoff scene in the Eastern Conference. Gives a basic round up of the different scenarios that could happen in the final stretch of the regular season.
