Deng comments on playing SG next year.

Luol was asked about playing the 2 next year and he commented on playing that position. Saying he looked forward to working out this summer so that he can play the spot. What are some of your thoughts about Deng-Hinrich backcourt? I know Ron Cey is opposed to it but I think he has the height to do it and he's only just a work in progress.

I don't like it. Deng is closer to a 4 than a 2.
Deng is the prototype 3/small forward, he should be happy there and will keep terrorizing small forwards if he stays there
Nociono and Deng might split the SF minutes and get more minutes at PF and SG respectively.

It's hard to keep them off the floor.

Going to be an interesting off season.
I'd like to see him have the ability, but I just can't see him having the lateral quickness to start at the SG. I tend to wonder how much he'll bulk up and what impact that would have over the next couple of years.

This off-season will determine the next 5 years at least for the Bulls IMO. I trust Pax to get it right.
Magic Johnson wasn't a center his whole carrer but for one moment in time he played the positionnot great but good.He was a guy that could play all 5 positions.Deng is no where near that level and never will be.So whats my point? If Deng believes he can play it,it shows he has total confidence in his game at the 2,3,4 spots.I say let him try it out.If he turns out to be one of those freak players that's multi-talented we have a real gem!If it doesn't work who cares? He can still be an awsone 3 or 4.What do we got to loose?
Luol at SG? Your Deng right!

I'm in 100% agreement here. I think our best talent would be on the floor if Noch started at SF and Deng at PF. And I think that Deng is young, doesn't have that skinny of a frame, even if he's skinny for now, and the PF position isn't really loaded with the power-down back-to-the-basket guys that we used to think of when we thought of PF's (Barkley, Mailman, Rodman). Even Gooden, who I remember as a beast in the paint from Kansas, plays more like a winged PF. K-Mart is the same, not to mention the unconventional Dirk and KG.

Deng could really fill out and then his "length and strength" athleticism will serve to become a monster PF defender, rather than a long SF defender that doesn't quite have the explosiveness of many of the SF's in the league.

Starting Deng at the 2 is another way to get Noch minutes, but I have not yet given up on Ben Gordon, who despite all the criticism because of all the high expectations, improved in most categories this year and is our leading scorer. Having our best talent on the floor would mean putting Kirk, Ben, Noch, Deng, and Chandler out there, with Duhon as the spark off the bench.

Deng is a pure 3 IMHO.
My Dream Lineup next season

Chandler
Sweetney
Adam Morrison
Deng
Hinrich

Trade Gordon for a real scoring 2 gaurd like say pierce or Ray Allen. Maybe in a package with one of our picks. Then Deng could actually backup the two and the 3 even the 4 if need be but I like nocioni there better.

Indeed.

The only thing is, when we are filling out the roster in the offseason, we can hope he can do it, but we can't count on his being able to do it. We still need to fill the big guard deficit in the draft, through trade or in FA.

if Pax sought that lineup I would whither in pain

I want our lineup by next year to be:

C - Chandler/Nazr
PF - Gooden/Aldridge/Songaila
SF - Deng/Nocioni
SG - Gordon/Brewer
PG - Hinrich/Duhon

Sign 2 FA bigs. Draft Aldridge and Brewer. Our defficiencies are set for a looong time.
I say give Nazr a 4 year deal ($5-6 mil) and give Gooden ($7-8 mil) a 3 year deal.
Damnit, spongy, you take all the fun out of it by including my opinion in the opening post.

But that won't stop me!!

Deng is not a shooting guard. To play him there beyond spot minutes neutralizes his strengths and amplifies his weaknesses. On both ends of the floor. For more detail, read any one of my 50 or 60 posts on this subject in the past. :clown:
Ya Tom your right I think the Bulls deffinetly have to adress the guard postion no matter what, in the draft probley and most likley. In other words your Deng right!!!

Against Caldwell Jones. Guess Bill Cartwright was busy lol.
