Denham Brown....Solid Second Rounder?

Brown's play over the last five games or so has shown him to be a very solid 2 way player....he guarded the other team's point guard in the last game and did a good job. He has only been used as a role player in UCONN, there has been a lot of highly touted recruits around him. I don't think we always get to see what he is capable of...look at his play on team Canada!

Will we finaly see a Canadian in Toronto? Will he be the first since Magloire?(Canuck in the NBA)

I would hope so, unlike Carl English and Mendez, he will get drafted. I just wonder where, some have him as bubble guy, others as a borderline 1st. With two picks in the 2nd, I think we would be dumb to pass on him unless there is a superb opportunity with another Roko.

This market and this country are starved for a star they can watch and be a fan of every night. I wonder if BC gets that.
I'd be a little suprised if we didn't draft him with the Miami pick, if still available. However, I'd also be a little suprised if he actually made the team right away.
He's a good player on a loaded team, I wouldn't mind him as a second-rounder if he did well in workouts.
I have no doubt that Denham will excel in workouts, he is the type of guy that will take almost anyone 1on1. He is an explosive scorer and has one of the best midrange game in all of College basketball. He has been quite solid so far in the tourney, however it will probably take some more huge games from him here on to raise some more heads. Definitely worthy of a late first round to early second round.

I'm also starting a Denham Brown fan club, pm me or just post in this thread to let me know.
I'd be all for picking him up with the Miami pick. He's been impressive with UConn this year in the games I've seen and his stats have impressed in the games I've missed.
It would be nice to finally see a Canadian on the team, and I think he could be a decent role player for this team.
i see denham brown as becoming a valuable pro. i'd hope that the raps could score a player like him in the second round while almost every other team is drafting on 'upside' and 'star potential'.

i'm not the biggest huskies fan, i don't really care much for uconn or the big east, and it matters not that he's canadian, but players like denham brown help win pro championships- especially today, with the rosters of the top teams being comprised of 9-10 key contributors.

i wouldn't mind him at all. plus, he'd give the media a canadian they so desperately feel the need to talk about, so his value would extend beyond the hardcourt. and maybe this magloire obsession would finally calm down from all angles, as well.

but really, i'm just fantasizing here. the chance we grab him with a second rounder is, at best, around 10%. i think most teams would be looking for a player of his quality- especially in this dry (awful? :) ) draft year.

peace
If Dehnam is still available for us in the 2nd round I would love to see tha Raps pick him. We need some Canadian representation on Canada's only NBA team.

I really believe that Dehnam can develop into a very good defender type role player especially with Mo Pete as his mentor.
I say we draft him with our first pick.

ok maybe not...
:D
I don't see it.

I don't think he has s snowball's chance in hell of being a defender in the NBA. His athleticism will be marginal for a 2 guard. His size is worse for a SF. When you look at all the wings that will be available, I don't think I draft this guy at all.

He is not a high percentage shooter, inside or out. He is not a playmaker. He's not a ballhawk.

If he didn't play for UConn, or come from Toronto, no-one would know who he is.

He may not be a traditional defender...but why would he have been playing Wilson in the last game when he was lighting up Marcus Williams....Because he can get the job done!

If Brown was not on UConn and was playing for a mid major he would be the #1 or #2 option and be a 18 ppg scorer. Right now he is behind Gay, Williams, and even Anderson when he is on...not alot of touches left considering the bigs (Boone and Armstrong) need some looks as well.
We would know who he is and would still be looking for him as a second rounder.

I am not saying Toronto should draft him, bit I do think he will get drafted by someone. I would like it to be the Raps, but I will not be pissed if they don't.
I'd take Allen ray over him in the 2nd, Brown has similar size to Grahem, who is a power SF, quite raw, We dont have much depth at SG and Allan ray is a guy that can shoot lights out, undersized but asa role player could excel.

We have a 6'2" combo guard in Mike James....we do need a legit back-up 2 guard and Ray is not it

I think that assessment is a little harsh.
I'm pulling for James White with our first second rounder- defensive potential and athletic length.
The thing people seem to miss about Brown is he has high basketball IQ, practices hard, always wanting to get better and has dealt with getting past alot of adversity.
Watch his play tonight, he doesn't take bad shots, moves without the ball, plays hard defense, and if he needs to put the scoring on his shoulders, he does it. He's just had a rough time in UConn, first with the knee injury then with the competition in players such as Okafor, Gordon, CV, Gay and even Anderson (since the guy never sees a shot he doesn't like). They were expecting him to carry alot of the scoring load after his freshmen year where he played pretty well but then he was out for pretty much the whole year, after that, he's bit a completely different player. Nevertheless, as a second rounder becoming a solid role player, he's as safe as they come.
Solid second rounder? Sure. First rounder? Not unless you're very, very desperate.
lets just say i am glad we don't have to make a decision until draft day.

I like Denham, and I think if the franchise is going to burn a pick to get a canadian playing for the raptors, it should be on him. But I honestly think that if at SG Rudy Fernandez or Hassan Adams or at PG, Bobby Brown (sans rock) from Cal St. Fullerton, or Dee Brown are on the board, I would like to take them instead.
If he's still on the board with the Miami pick we could take him.

But if he is, we could just invite him to camp and not have to invest anything in him. I doubt he'd turn down our invitation (unless we drafted an SG).

If we don't use a pick on him than I would not invite him to camp....he may look at it as a token invite....as would I. I would not mind useing the Miami pick on him and have him start off in the D-league. The Raps have been lucky that none of our key players had an injury this year....having a player like Denham in the minor league ready to step in and get a few minutes would be nice. (Sow)
